Hello from Koh Kong, our last stop in Cambodia!!
Well after saying our goodbyes to the children at APCA we made our way to Phnom Penh and then took a bus from there to Koh Kong. It was a 6 hour journey where we both had the air-conditioning dripping cold water on us the whole way so were we glad when the journey came to a finish.
We grabbed some moto drivers on arrival in Koh Kong and they took us to a hotel where we spent the remainder of the day chilling out and putting some desperately needed laundry in to get washed.
The following day we rented a moped and set off to the Koh Kong Safari World which turned out to be a complete waste of money. We were charged $12 entry fee and barely saw any animals. We went to a bird show which was.....not the best, followed by a crocodile show that was.....not the best and finally a tiger show which was......not the best. Although, we did think during the crocodile and tiger show it was going to end in disaster with a few close calls of the crocs and tigers snapping at the performers. If it wasn't for the shows, there would have only been a few monkeys and birds to see in the park. Big disappointment.
We decided to head to the nearby waterfall, which also turned out to be a disappointment. It wasn't really a waterfall but more of a in J's words "pissy stream". Quite annoyed we decided to just go back to the hotel. Thankfully we had booked our bus to Thailand for the following day.
On returning to our hotel they had decided to make us change rooms, which we didn't mind. We soon found out we had no hot water in our new room but they were charging us the same price. J tried to sort it out but they were very rude and didn't care at all, so we decided to leave. We found a nice guest house around the corner for a cheaper price with hot water, we were glad to be heading to Thailand the following morning. Koh Kong has not been worth the stop, the sights are not worth seeing and the people here are very rude and everything is overpriced. The first place in our 6 months of travelling we haven't enjoyed!!
Not the best way to end our time in Cambodia but we have enjoyed every other place here and felt we have learnt a lot about the history of the country. Along with Vietnam it has been very hard hitting to see/read about what has happened here with it all being so recent. The only downside being Cambodia using the dollar for everything which has made it a bit pricey in terms of SE Asian standards. Apart from that we have seen some amazing places, Kampot probably being our favourite. The orphanage as we have said is one of the most amazing experiences we have ever had. The people in Cambodia along with the people in Laos, are the friendliest (apart from Koh Kong where the majority of them are Thai though). We cant believe how fast the time seems to be passing. Tomorrow its off to Thailand again, our first stop being Koh Chang. Not long now until we meet the families which we cant wait for.
Goodbye Cambodia......Hello Thailand......again :)
