Hello from Hong Kong,
Arrived in Schenzen on the morning of the 10th via our flight from Guilin. Arrived to quite nice Warm weather with the sun shining. Schenzen is the closet place in China you can get to before crossing the border to Hong Kong.
The border crossing was quite simple, basically just a Customs crossing to stamp your passport. There was a Subway that took you directly into the Centre of HK. Our hostel was on the Kowloon island on the main street that runs up it. Our first impressions when we came out of the Subway station that it was all just manic. Very High Rise buildings, Pedestrian packed streets, traffic jams and people pestering you everywhere to buy fake watches, tailored suits and knock off handbags.
Our hostel provided directions to our Hostel from the Subway so was relatively easy to find. Our Hostel was on the 3rd floor of a so called "Mansion" highrise building. The place was a Dump. Heaps of Pakistanis hassling you to go with them to better cheaper hostel so they could earn their commission but we managed to ignore them all and get to our Hostel reception. Checked in and were given a private room instead of a dorm. This was to be the first of three rooms we were to stay in for the stint of our stay in Hong Kong.
We chilled and caught up on Facebook activities before heading out to scope out the city. We walked around, got a ferry to pick up our Buble tickets on Hong Kong island then went for a Japanese meal for supper. Both quite tired as had been up since 6am in Guilin so an early night was on the cards so we were fresh to take in Michael Buble the following night.
Our 2nd day was spent again just sightseeing around both sides of the water and then finding an Irish bar to have a few warm up beverages before the Buble Concert. Headed over to Hong Kong Island to the Exhibition Centre for our concert which was the best. Best live performance we have both seen and are both set on marrying Buble now. Am sure you have all seen the Facebook posts we put up about it so wont drag on about our love for the Canadian stud lol
After the concert we got back to our hostel to find the hotel staff had upped our bags and stuff and dumped us in another room. We were both really annoyed but just let it flow as we booked a dorm so were not too bothered to be moved to what we rightfully booked. The next morning we were awakened by the demented Chinese Manageress telling us we were again this morning going to have to move to another dorm. Brigger went feil with her, both screaming at each other to be told this was the last move and we would spend our last 2nights in this room. The final room I must add was the pits. The decoration and size lead us to believe that it probably previously was an en-suite bathroom lol, the toilet had no toilet seat, the mattresses were made from polystyrene.
We had two room mates, a girl from London and a guy from Philadelphia who was on Spring Break from Singapore where he is currently studying. That day we we went over to Hong Kong island and had a look at all the High Price Designer shops, both were feeling quite jealous at the people rocking up in their Lamborghinis!!! Later that night we checked out the Markets on Kowloon with Stefan our AMerican roomie. All the usual kind of stalls selling trinkets to fake watches. We had tea at a Chinese Restaurant which again was amazing then headed to the Irish Bar next door to our hostel for a few beers.
Our final full day we went out and went up Victoria's peak which overlooked the whole of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula so have very good aerial pictures. The queue's were horrendous for the Tram to get up was the only down side but still worth it non the less. That night we headed out with Stefan again at ate a Malaysian restaurant which could not fault. Headed back to the Hostel to get all our bags packed for our flight to Bangkok the following morning.
Over-all we have both really REALLY like the entire duration of our journey through China. From freezing cold Beijing all the way down to Summerish Hong Kong have had an absolute blast. We both did not expect it to be so developed and the food to be as good as it has been, literally have not had a bad dish. We did expect people to maybe speak a little bit more English but again we are in CHINA and has just added to the experience. Both are wanting to come back for sure and see more so hopefully in the future can come and see more on a stop over before we visit S Korea or Japan.
Fly to Bangkok today where we stay for one night before heading south to chill on a beach for couple of weeks. Both had enough of City life now so our next blog will be written in a hammock on one of Thailand Sunny Beaches.
Adios
