So far we haven't had too much of a hard time finding food. Although we have come across some horrendous dishes.
Our first Vietnamese meal was just after we landed in Hanoi and we didn't really know what to or what not to look for.
Walking through the old quarter at around 8am looking for breakfast, we came across a small independent restaurant and thought, "It's not the cleanest but we are starving, lets eat here." Making our way to a table to look through the menu my worst fears came to reality. No bacon, no sausages, not even egg on toast! Instead we are looking at boiled dog meat, fried frog, fried snakes head and cooked bird, what bird? We will never know! After a short decision Mel chose noodles and vegetables, I chose chicken noodles. Mind you this is breakfast but we still thought we had chosen a good option considering..
Waiting and chatting about our thoughts so far, out pops the lady with two noodle dishes. Well at least she has got something right. The only problem being she hands the chicken noodles to Mel then hands me a noodle dish full of brown meat. The easy way around this would have been for us to swap meals, but where is the fun in that?
After a giggle Mel starts removing the chicken with her chop sticks flicking meat here, there and everywhere, whilst I'm cautiously prodding and sniffing this brown meat. Is it beef or is it not? Something isn't right but it doesn't taste too bad! In the end my mind and my stomach go in different directions and I can't eat anymore.
Ok that was our first meal half eaten and we are still hungry. Is this a sign of things to come? I hope not!
