Hi there,
Well im in Puno at the moment which is on the edge of Lake Titicacca. This is the highest navigable lake in the world at nearly 4000 meters above sea level. So far im feeling better after a prolonged stomach infection which i needed two injections for. One for fever and the other for altitude sickness/dizzyness, and some antibiotics which im sure were mean't for horses. After Lima we took in places such as Pisco where we did sandboarding, nothing like snowboarding at all. After this we spent a few days in Arequipa where we took in Colca canyon. Unfortunatley for me this is when my bout of illness kicked in and i decided to stay in bed. Shame as i missed the Andean Condors flying in the early morning thermals.
After flying to Cusco it was a day or so here just chilling before the star of the Inca Trail hiking groups. Cusco is a beautiful city very historical with lots to see. From Cusco we all took a bus to Ollantytambo the starting place of most of the Inca Hikes
The Trek i took part in was the Lares Inca trail, there are different Inca Trails that you can do of vary lengths and degrees of difficulty. I have as many warm clothes as possible as i hear its gonna be real cold at nights due to the altitude. After a four hour transfer to the start of the trail fraught with punctures and getting stuck in rivers beds we eventually got to the start of the trail.
The first days involved a 5 hour hike from 3200meters to 4400meters with camp at around 3900m. It started to rain on the hike, which led to the feeling of being cold and tired. I was not looking forward to the first nights sleep.
Will be back later with the rest about the Inca Trail.
