Southern Cross - Lima to Rio De Janeiro in 45 days
Hi Folks,
First stop was Lima the capital of Peru. Lima turned out to be a real nice city, not as dangerous as some said. Simon and i just did the usual tourist stuff just to get a feel.
The rest of the people in the GAP group are great, we all seem to get along real well. There are folks from all over the world, two belgies, Swiss, Swedish, Yanks, Irish and the usual british representatives.
We are getting the bus and going down the West coast to Pisco (home of the pisco sour spirit, Ica, and Nasca. We are stopping on the way to do some sandboarding at the foothills of the Andes mountains at Huacachina which hopefully the snowboarding experience will help, but probably not, and the see the Ballestas islands to see the sealions and all that stuff.
All the areas in Peru are quite poor and most of the villages look like a landfill site, mainly due to the damage caused by Earthquakes some years ago. Apparently tremors are a regular weekly occurance. The people are really nice here in Peru and just come and talk to you, especially the girls. I guess they want to know more about you and practice there English.
After this we off to Nasca to see the ancient Inca cemetaries and see the Nasca lines from the air.
So not to bore you all too much ill call it a day and will be back in touch soon.
Jonathan
P.S Plenty of photos to upload when i get to Cuzco
