We had a few nights in Peuto Madryn (another 17 hour bus) on the East coast of Patagonia on the way back to Buenos Aires. It's a really popular spot as the Southern Right Whales give birth, mate and hang out with their babies for a few months before heading to Antarctica mid December. I've never seen a whale in real life so being so close to a mum and wee pup for about 20 mins was amazing. At one point the calf got tired and lay on his side on top of his mums nose and she held him up to the surface so he could breath. It was pretty cute.
We also saw penguinos, sea lions and elephant seals which was cool but didn't really compare to seeing them up close in Galapagos.
A little while ago we started picking our hostels based on who in the area does the best BBQ. And our hostel in Pueto Madryn did not disappoint. We were there for 2 amazing BBQ nights and got on the 20 hour bus to Buenos Aires very happy, with a lot of steak in out bellies!
Just before we got on the bus when we got out the taxi at the train station we had our bags on the ground putting them on, as soon as we were out the taxi 3 dodgy looking teenagers who had been leaning against the wall starting running towards us. Just before they reached us a policeman intercepted them and stopped them, questioned them for a while and took down details. We're pretty sure they were going to try steal our bags, lucky escap
