We left our little camp site near Dover at 8.30 and headed for the port. It was a straight run only stopping briefly at customs and then we were parked in the belly of the P & O Ferry heading for Calais.
Once in Calais we had to remember to drive on the right as we headed out of town and onto the motorway which was the toll road heading southeast towards Reims. I hate to think how much it cost us as when we go off briefly after an hour to find somewhere for lunch it cost €15 and we still had about 4 hours to go!
We stopped off at a lovely little village called Loos-en -Gohelle where we had a wonderful time. It was about 12.30pm and as we quickly remembered most places close for lunch from 12 til 2pm. We walked into a Brasserie and the staff jumped to attention to serve us. None spoke English so the owner came who knew one or two words and tried to decide what we may like. He brought us a lovely meal of steak and salad and a little later on gave us a lovely soft covered book about the town which is a pilot town for sustainable development. When we went to pay he told the staff to round the price down to just €20 and then he loaned us one of his staff to walk us to a shop where we would be able to buy a SIM card for our phones. Amazing service and friendliness and I'm sure it's because we were Kiwis. The shop assistants at the tobacconist where we got our SIM card and a customer at the shop we stopped of at to get gas were fantastic and we were soon on our way with smiles on our faces happy to be back in France.
