After getting home the other night from a family outing we walked into a group of fourth grade girls gathered in the lobby of our apartment building. They were in the first apartment which had been recently reconstructed to be a culinary classroom and all dressed in aprons and tall white chef hats. They begged us to come see what they were making and of course try some. We went up to our apartment first, dropped off our bags and trinkets from the days walk, and headed back downstairs. We walked in and immediately were surrounded by little Chinese girls. They swarmed the kids and offered us plates of sausages, omelets, and pancakes. The teachers all pulled out their cameras and started snapping away too. We all had little bites of goodies and answered all their questions. They wanted to know our names and how old we all were including Ramsay and I and how long we would be in China. All very sweet and very comfortable with us being there. After we snacked and chatted a little we left with the waves and goodbyes of 20 fourth graders. What a nice way to come home! We will visit our new friends again soon.
