Day 15
Today we stopped at a real campground (as opposed to one of the KOA places) along the Alaska highway, which means no cell service or Wi-Fi and we are sleeping in tents so this will be fun. So I'll post this whenever I get a connection. Breakfast at the sketchy hotel wasn't really that bad and we headed out for what was supposed to be our longest drive of the trip. Turned out there was forest fires blovking the road to where we were planning on going so we ended up cutting our route about 100 miles short. The drive was quite majestic, it really felt like what I expected the open wilderness to be like. The alaska highway is the only road that makes that goes into alaska so most of the time there is no civilization for thousands of miles to the sides of us. There's lots of rolling hills and wildlife. In fact, today we say two moose (I prefer meese), four buffalo, a brown bear that Bryan swears was a grizzly but im pretty positive it was just a brown black bear (there are such things), because it looked nothing like a grizzly, and a few young bighorns. We passed another beautiful lake (Lake Muncho) that was the same awesome color as Louise just a different time of setting and much much bigger. When we got here to Liard we ate at a local lodge and went to the Liard hot springs. I rolled up my jeans and stood in it for a bit but the other three changed and got all the way. The water was crystal clear and boiling in one part but smelled horribly of sulfur. While they were in I just walked around and had fun taking pictures of random stuff. Found a duck and her ducklings and a seagull. Besides that lets see, I finished my second book, on to Restaurant at the End of the Universe, my lips have been horribly dry because of the air and there are no real convenience stores along the highway so I have no chapstick (usually more than 200 km between gas stations and they usually only sell gas). We passed a crew that was repainting the center lines and had signs for you to pass them on the sholder so you didnt mess up their work. Oh and last but not least Canadian mosquitos are HUGE, they are about as big as mosquito hawks in GA. I am currently being assaulted by them as I sit by the fire and bug spray doesn't help. Due to natural delays, our longest day of driving has been postponed to tomorrow so this will be fun.
Breakfast: French Toast
Lunch: Sirloin burger from A&W (with tomatoes on it, mom, i'm forcing down vegetables even though the family's diet seems to be trying to keep me away from them) actually quite good.
Dinner: Nasty chicken strips
