Day 13
A strange end to an awesome day. We got to spend some more time in Banff before we left (yay) so I got a few souvenires and we got to walk around all the cool little shops there. I swear, Banff is the most beautiful town I've ever seen. Left at about 1 to start our drive up the Ice-field Parkway through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park (rated the most beautiful drive in North America). Every second was truly awe-inspiring. Completely surrounded by the Canadian Rockies the whole trip. The jagged snow-caps looked so menacing and powerful, and all the water up here is absolutely crystal clear, definitely something you don't see in Georgia. Made a short hike to a pretty cool waterfall. The absolute high point of the day though was we stopped at Lake Louise to eat lunch. Behind us was a really cool Chateau and in front of us was the most amazing view I could possibly imagine. The large bright turquoise lake was backed by a brilliantly white glacier. I really could only sit and stare. We kept driving up the ice-fields parkway and were met with some really sweet glaciers and one massive Ice-field in front of a really big glacier which I believe is the one that Aunt Jane was referring to. You could take a tour on the ice field in these what I can only describe as monster-busses, the big lifted tour buses were pretty ridiculous to say the least. Across the street from the ice-field we let the dogs out and hung out for a bit, there was this small but bright turquoise pond next to where we parked that had a large rock sticking out about ten feet from the shore so I rolled up my jeans, took my shoes off, walked through the glacial run off pond, and got my picture taken on top of the rock. Kept driving and found some long horned sheep on the side of the road about 20 yards from the truck. I got out and stood on the shoulder. Got a chance to take some really awesome action shots of them jumping in the air and slamming their horns into one another! It was quite a sight, they sounded like loud gun shouts when they hit each other. On our drive we saw a bald eagle, a loon, a few deer, a caribou, and three black bears. Then we pulled up to a spot on the road with some soft looking mountain goats standing about eight feet from my window. There was also a big horned sheep just standing in the other lane at another time. The views just stayed amazing the whole trip, pictures really cant do any of it justice. Snow has been all over the place and it was quite cold all day, I had to keep reminding myself that it was June. We got to the campground at about nine and Bryan and Bonnie started dinner while Josh and I attempted to get the dogs to go through the nifty agility course they have at this KOA that was funny. Had dinner outside (brats for the second night in a row) and then Josh and I played frisbee at 11:20 local time just to show that there was enough light to do it. We all are in a one room cabin with a bunk and a queen size bed so this will be interesting... I'm so so so thankful it wasn't overcast and rainy today like it has been the rest of our trip
Breakfast: Pancakes, toast, and eggs
