On the way down the road again towards the glaciers we stopped of at the bushmans centre. Inside we were shown videos of how the wild deer were caught by flying low over them then jumping out and tackling them to the ground, bit more extreme than skydives or bungy jumps. Plenty of interesting stuff inside and we were looking forward to trying a Possum pie but they were recently banned because of the poison from the 10-80 drops to kill the possums.
As we got the Franz Josef we got straight onto the road again to Fox Glacier to do our skydive above the glacier, which is rated as the second best place to skydive, just behind mount everest. After almost no safety briefingwe were up in the bouncy we plane climbing high above the glacier and up to Mount Cook, and at 15,600ft the flappy plastic door was opened and we were away and Jo got a dvd to remember the occasion which we'll enjoy watchin her panic/enjoy the experience over and over again. When we touched down Jo was a little sick from the stunts pulled with the parachute but we wanted to head straight back up to jump again.
Not long back on the ground we were headed out of the mountains towards Lake Mapourika for a 3 hour Kayaking trip. We saw some awesome views of the mountians and the acoustics around the lake and forest were impressive. Jo and I got our 2-man kayak stuck down a creek when we tried to do a u-turn and got tangled up with a few branches round our rudder.
Next day we got up on Franz Josef glacier and were kitted out with crampons and most importantly, the ice-axes. We spent around 6 hours on the ice, treking up over the crevasses and climbing through many tunnels formed by the melting ice. Some of the crevassses were quite deep but luckly only one person lost half their leg to a bit of a puddle. I tried my hand at a bit of ice climbing, was surprisingly easy climbing up with the axes but the way down wasnt so easy. After a hard day on the ice we went to the saunas where we went between the 36, 38 and 40deg pools before getting a little too wrinkly.
