Have been cruising the beaches north of salvador after the crazy carnival! Decided me, John and the purse stings needed a good rest! Took a bus to Arembepe (small coastal village) and chillied out eating pineapple, getting sunburnt and watching the stars at night. Took the bus each day to both Priaia do Forte to see the turtle project (see pics), and to tranquil Imbassai to see the beautiful lakes and mile long beach. Despite our peaceful surroundings however, the atmosphere at the hostel was somewhat different! After assessing funds, we decided to cook our own dinner. The woman who owned the hostel allowed us to use the oven...we think. Since our portuguese is not yet as fluent as it could be we struggled on with hand gestures and over exaggerated body language! Finally decided on pizza and chicken fingers for yet another home cooked nutritious meal... From this, arose chaos...not only did the woman try to oven cook the nuggets in the plastic bag but she gave us a plate big enough for a small mouse to eat off despite the oven being literally crammed full of junk meat! The husband of the owner also took to grumbling and shouting what can only be imagined as obscenities whenever john entered the kitchen. Then... the gas went out in the oven and we ended up having pan fried pizza and chicken, resulting in a half raw, half burnt finished product! despite predictions of food poisoning, we managed to survive feeling better than ever and live to tell the tale!
John also thinks it's funny to appear mentally challenged in front of portuguese speaking locals! He both verbally and facially offends them, although luckily enough, they seem to find him amusing.
We are now back wit Juliana, waiting to take a bus trip to Rio on Monday (18th)
