It took me 5 lifts to get to Tweed heads, a really nice place at the border of NSW to Queensland.
One of those 5 lifts is worth mentioning as it was 2 totally freaky Aussie brothers who drove to Tweed with their little van.
As a matter of fact, I was already thinking no one's going to pick me up at that spot when suddenly these guys drove by. They turned at the roundabout and shouted: We're coming back to pick u up!!! Thats was really weird but as soon as I started talking to them I knew this ride is going to be fun. One is a freestyle-skier, which to me seems really strange when u look at the snowfall in Australia :D... Anyway If someone's interested ,he has an own homepage called ballinonabudget or so.
Finally, they dropped me at Sexton hill and even gave me their phone to call Brenad who should ne hosting me for the next 2 days.
She took me to the house where she lives with her husband and once we've entered their driveway I knew that i hit the Jackpot!
Not only the pool, the big garden or my luxery room but also the friendly and generous treatment of Bren and Mike made me feel over the moon. Moreover, they served me a coffee from the George Clooney machine and then Mike asked me to go surfing with him which has always been a dream since I came to Down Under.
The next days were exciting too..
They took me to an animal sanctuary and told me that the first part of it was free... But when i got there I didn't actually know where the entrance was and walked thru the first gate that I saw which was not not the one with the counter so no one asked me to pay... Long story short I got in for free but For some reasons I can't explain the whole story here;)In fact, I saw neraly all of the australian wildlife and I was amazed by the power of nature. Moving on now,, after some nice meals and nights in the lovely Connelly Villa I had to say goodbye once more.
Next Stop Brisbane!
Before I got there I was shocked to the bones as I started hitching and suddenly I noticed that my phone was missing...so i waved to the guy who had already stopped to give me a lift, went in a shop and called my hosts again. Finally we found it and after 2 lifts I got into Brissi ! My Friends from school who traveled Australia for half a year for alreday there waiting for their flight home. It was a nice moment when we saw each other again after 6months and we celebrated that appropriately. we grabbed a box of beers, sat beside the river and played stupid games but it was really fun!Unfortunately, we had only one day together and in order to stay in the bloody wooduck hostel allnight I met up with a nice Aussie who lives at west end of Brissi. When I got there I was pretty much exhausted from the night before and the long walks with my bagpack. Nevertheless I was looking forward to meet that guy as he writes musicals and speaks german fluently. Another german traveler who stayed with for weeks opens the door and immediately I could smell a nice meal! Guess what it was. Kangaroo! It was really nice and rich but i felt a little bit guilty cause i love these animals...;) As a matter of fact, Brissi is nice but not very special I had a look at the river and the other sights and than I had to hit the road again!
This time Fraser Island was on my schedule and Luckily i found a host in Maryborough which is about 30km south.
I stayed there with a simply fenomenal family ,the Bartons. As rough as that may sound they were really nice and even more special! Short overview: Tuff Truck ,Prostitution,Cigaretts, Rodeo, Football reffereeing,Army and Chef these are some of the terrific words to describe my hosts Life. They are about 70 and calm now and they lived with their daughters family in one big ranch on the outskirts opf town. Their Grandson is authistic and their 8 year old daughter really kind and cute. I ended up playing high school musical songs with her singing-awesome expereince. In addition, we spend a lot of time in the big shed where they built their tuff truck and drank beers and talked. Anyway, I had to go to Fraser which is the biggest sand Island in the world and so I did. At 6 in the morning I headed to Kingfisher bay and jumped on a barge to the Isle. Though all the warnings I just went their without a tour and thought I can get around on my own somehow. This in fact did not really work out and after standing their like a lonesome dog I decided to walk to the legendary Lake MCkenzie. Easily said but very hard in the end. I had only my thongs with me and the walking track was closed because of the heavy bushfires. in addition the strongly recommend to go their in groups and with enough water.... at least I had water but I quickly realised when I big Goanna crosed my way that this is not the odenwald but the country with the most dangerous animals. However, I got there after 3.5 hours and the first view of the lake made all the effort worth it. It's so pure that u can even drink the water! To be honest I got a lift on my way back after asking a few guys for help. Back home I had a nice meal and stayed one night longer than I planned. My hosts wife, who is addicted to american Indians gave me some handmade scarves although it was her birthday and before I left I played my traveler blues for them which has become a ritual now. So next morning Donna gave me a lift to the service station where she worked and than I started to catch a ride again. All in a nutshell it took me 24 sleepless hours until I reachd Airlie beach. Firstly I got a lift by a christian methodist with a caravan-very interesting man. Then there was a truck accident and during the traffic delay I asked a truck driver who drove till Mackay. So I was now 100ks away from finish but it was 9 o clock by then and no one picked me up till 3.30. After all I had to sleep in the servo and a bus stop and reached Airlie at 6 in the morning. Now I had to find that guy with the sailing boat...

Jabriel I've postulated that there's a thing caelld the maximum stench threshold. It's when a person's clothes or body are so saturated with odours that they lose these odours at the same rate that they gain new ones, thus attaining a kind of bad smell stasis.T Roach recently posted..
