On Monday morning we left the snowy, magical town of Zakopane behind and caught an early coach back to Krakow. Upon arrival we realised that the sunny, dry capital had within a week also turned into a snowy, magical town and Joe was not best pleased as he was looking forward to some snow relief! I on the other hand was thrilled :)
We retired to our hostel before setting off for some souvenir shopping, ice cream eating and went to a place called Yummies for tea, which luckily was very yummy. That evening we planned our last day in Poland which primarily revolved around shopping!
Tuesday morning started well, we went to a cupcake shop and enjoyed some organic filter coffee, fresh orange juice and a bacon and roasted red pepper muffin. Yes it sounds weird but was amazing. We returned to the markets to purchase the souvenirs we had scouted the previous day (one of Joe's purchases being a pipe!) and then made our way to the mall for some more ice cream. I had the Pinnochio shaped ice cream however it looked nothing like the picture in the menu and was more like an eaton mess, but still delicious. Joe and I then had an expensive afternoon of shopping in the mall where we both bought a new jacket and I bought some new bright blue shoes!
Next we went to spend some Euros at a local Polish restaurant which was underground and we had the best meal! We had meat filled dumplings to start with and then a meat feast for 2. This included pork, chicken and beef grilled with onion, eggplant and peppers, we then had on a spinning plate some coleslaw, potatoes, vegetables and 4 different sauces! We both had a beer each and it came to about £16 total! Amazing :)
The next day we had an early start as we had to pack and get some final ice cream before jumping on a 10 hour coach to Prague! We had already booked our tickets and was told which bus to get and where, knowing that we got on in Krakow and off in Prague, it was however slightly stressful! Firstly we couldn't find the bus, it wasn't where it was meant to be at the time it should have arrived and none of them had any sign on the front which we were told it would! As most of the bus drivers don't speak English it was a challenge just getting on the right bus, and just saying 'Prague?' seemed to produce some blank expressions. Anyway we found it in the end and was good to go. After about 15minutes we stopped for what seemed to turn out to be a cigarette break! The polish driver said something over the loud speaker which we obviously didn't understand so Joe went to try to translate to check we weren't missing anything. He returned to tell me that apparently we are meant to change coaches in Katowice, something we weren't told when buying the tickets! So for the next hour driving towards Katowice, we were panicking, should we change buses or stay on? Where was this bus going to? What if we get off and there isn't another bus!? Anyway, we turned up in Katowice, not at a proper bus station where we could hop off and ask someone, but a back street petrol station! Luckily we managed to work out that another bus was coming and that was the one to Prague, everyone got off the 1st bus and onto the 2nd so at least we weren't alone! The coach trp was long and boring but we had some snacks and watched some American films that were translated into Polish to keep us entertained.
We arrived into Prague at about 10pm and had 3 nights pre booked at a hostel which was easy to find. A well deserved sleep followed.
Our first day in Prague was spent in the rain where we walked for hours around the city looking at the historical sights and magnificent buildings. This included walking across the Charles Bridge and window shopping around Wenceslas Square.
Today we went to see the worlds oldest working astronomical clock and took some pictures around the city. We found a great little cafe called Bohemian Bagel where for just £1.50 you can get bottomless cups of filter coffee and fizzy drink! Obviously Joe was in heaven and I've already been told we are going back tomorrow! We also found a fun bar where they have beer pumps on each table and you can just grab a glass and pour away! A great novelty and fun for one drink but not really for us. We went out for some tea and are now spending the evening researching our next destination...Georgia!
Sbohem for now!
