Gamarjoba!
We are no longer homeless! We moved into a new host family consisting of a mum and her daughter. Our host mum is a teacher and her daughter is in the 12th grade and preparing for her final exams before university. They live in a lovely flat which is right in the main street in Zugdidi! We have a really nice room, Internet access and a western toilet! Oh and its warm! The shower is a little dodgy at times but it is so much better than the last place by a mile! So we are happy and settled in our new home.
Our host mum has been cooking lots of nice Georgian dishes for us and I think she may attempt making a pasty next after we showed her some pictures of one! She doesn't speak English but luckily her daughter does speak quite a lot so we are able to translate.
We have started in our schools which are only 5minutes apart. My school has only 200 students whereas Joe's school has about 500. The classes are grades 1-6 ranging from 5 years old to about 10 years old and we have between 2 and 5 lessons per day. We haven't started teaching as such (its only our 3rd day!) so we really just sit and observe, correct students and read for them. Joe's co-teacher speaks really good English and has also shown us around Zugdidi after school. My co-teachers speak 'ok' English, one is better than the other but basic sentences are really all they understand. It's ok though, we know they haven't been taught by a native speaker so it is difficult for them, that's where we come in!
After school we have taught our host mum and daughter English (we are contracted to teach them 3 hours a week) but we are hoping to get out over the weekend.
Our experience with Georgians so far has been good, they are friendly and love it when we try to speak their language. Us and our other friends have been receiving condolences from them for Whitney Houstan's death...they express how sorry they are like we knew her which is sweet! Oh and a student told me yesterday she saw me on Georgian TV?!
Anyway, I think that is all from us, we will get some more pictures over the weekend and post them on here ASAP!
Nakhvamdis for now :)
