Joanna's Travels
Well, so we made it on the boat to the Oarsmans Bay Resort (myself, Dee, Theresa, Brid and Paul & Jane)... we all got shown up to the dorm and all we could think when we got there was "this is more like it!".... then we got told they had made a mistake and we all had to sleep in tents! Us four girls had our own tent that was sheltered by a roof but Paul and Jane had a little two man tent. But it was a beautiful day so we all sat on the beach and played in the water. They had floating mattresses for the sea and so we were able to top up the tan and relax and read our books. Lovely beach.
Lunch and dinner were not the same as at Beachcomber - it was more of a resort for couples (if you were lucky enough to be in a bure); as there was only one sink for the whole dorm (14 people) and the four man tent and the four two-man tents. Oh, and the showers ran out of water... it was then we found out that the lady at the Gold Coast Resort was apparantly a witch and so had presumably put a curse on us for leaving... this theory was backed up by Dee having insects in all her drinks and food, there were ants in our tent, the next day the weather changed and there was a storm and the tent filled with water and then when i went in to get our bags out the biggest spider in the world had taken residence in our tent and scared the living daylights out of me... we then got moved to the dorm (they had to put in extra beds to accomodate us) and Brid didnt have a mosquito net and even though Dee did she woke up to a woodlouse climbing over her head: it was not a good place. But, we enjoyed moaning about it and made the best of a bad lot by making banana leaf bracelets with 'Aunty Maria' and having tea and cake. And the food was no where near as good as Beachcomber. We had more bone curry (as first tasted at Gold Coast) - where do they find the tiny chickens with the bones, we wondered??
Steve was right though - there are "certain standards" you expect, and we needed to get back to the mainland..... so we booked ourselves a spot at Manta Ray, which was half way back to Nadi, and caught the Yasawa Flyer on wednesday afternoon......
