Hola todos,
Ok well we have just managed to delete our first journal entry- dont quite know how but this website seems to always cause us problems. I think last time we mentioned we were off to Puerto Lopez for the weekend. We had an amazing time here, filled with adventures.
It begun by us missing the only direct bus from Quito to Puerto Lopez, so we had to re-route via Manta and Jipijapa equallying a total of 3 buses. This might not have been so bad if we hadnt been travelling overnight not really knowing where we were going and the coach playing horror movies! 12 hours later we finally arrived at Puerto Lopez and wow it was well woth the journey. The town was nothing like we expected, it was very small and very local, and the most convenient form of transport was the taximoto. We found a cute hotel on the beach front and despite the lack development we had our own private pool with hammocks- all for $10 a night.
Jo and me decided to go for a little swim in the Pacific which was all nice until we started to get bitten by some knid of water spiders so resided to the pool- traumatised. We found a nice little restaurant to have dinner in and ended up spending most of the evening there.
Sunday, we went off to visit ´La Isla de la plata´, on what we thought would be a nice relaxing excursion!!! We found ourselves trekking a very mountainous, arid island in 40 degree heat, wearing flip flops- we had no idea we were letting ourselves in for this. The highlight of the trek was seeing two types of birds indigenous to the Galapagos Islands- made the trek so worthwhile. THE REAL HIGHLIGHT of the trip was snorkelling near the island around Coral Reef in crystal clear water- was absolutely amazing, so relaxing and desolate. Really was like a paradise. Alex even managed to spot a star fish!! The boat ride was just as fun and beacuse there was only a small group of us it felt like we had a private boat. We have decided that we have to buy a boat!!
This week we went back to our Quito life and had our second week of Spanish lessons. Jo and Alex had a joint lesson and both loved it. Valentines Day in our school was cute, they gave us all roses and made little party food for us. We went out wednesday night for the first time in Quito. We went to two nice bars - was a very funny night.
Weather has been miserable this week. Quite cold and rainy most afternoons- feels like we´re back in England! Preparing ourselves for the Amazon now, and will update you as often as we can on our jungle adventures.
Take care, lots of love x x x x
