Today Charlotte and I went through the Museum Gustavianum and the Uppsala Cathedral. The museum is extremely interesting. It housed one of the first anatomical theaters in the world. Convicts were dissected in front of students and this is how they discovered how the body worked. There was also a display showing how the land in Sweden has gradually risen so that the original settlements that had been on the coast are actually quite far inland now.
We also spent some time in the cathedral. It was built in the 13th century and was originally a Catholic church. There is a short video that shows Gustav Vasa's grave. The pipe organ is being updated so a section of the church is blocked off. Huge chandeliers hang from the ceiling and Charolotte told me that they use candles in them for the Christmas Eve service.
We took a nice walk in the forest near their house. Actually we traced part of the path that students of Linnaeus walked while gathering botanical specimens for him.
We will probably visit Stockholm tomorrow. Both Charlotte and I are also working on our online classes.
