so this is one of the longest stretches of days at sea...EIGHT days and NINE nights straight of no land. This may sound weird but it feels like it's going too fast. it's most likely because we are creating a university for 725 students and have all been working a lot.
Today i coordinated a Shabbat Dinner for the Jewish students, coordinated w/ faculty to have a MLKJ celebration, worked in our students of color group into it, planned a christian worship service for this Sunday, and had 2 hours of "deck duty" from 9-11pm. We have our staff meetings at 12pm every day, which are jam packed w/ tasky items to get through (basically creating a student life program on the fly).
another challenge is getting caught up in work responsibilities and then realizing that you need to plan your travel for the next three months. i've basically decided to wing-it with Spain and see how that goes. i'll sit down over the next couple of days and try to book a train to Madrid. unfortunately I doubt i'll be able to catch a futbol match as La Liga games are on Sundays, which is after we depart for Morocco.
one of the hardest parts about the daily schedule is that we're sailing from west to east, which means we keep having to turn our clocks forward! so the days feel even shorter. the past three consecutive evenings we've changed our clocks forward. also, the days of the week don't really matter too much. the students have class on saturdays and sundays and therefore we are also working those days.
however, every day i wake up and look out the window and I can't help but smile. it's just crazy to look out and see us slushing through the ocean and know we're in the middle of nowhere.
btw1....i think i know the names of about 67 out of 80 of my residents (yes i made a floor chart)
btw2....one of the professor's is a pca church dude (and his family)...which was a hot discovery
