this past sunday we held our first SAS Christian Fellowship (SCF) service. it worked out perfectly as the Sunday fell 3 days before Spain. While the students had classes all day, we still wanted to observe the Lord's Day so we put together a service with some worship, some teaching from the word, and some prayer in the Union (which was nice to have the largest venue on the ship).
outside of a few technical difficulties, it seemed that a lot of the students really appreciated having a place to come and worship together as a community. probably about 60 students came out, a couple staff and faculty w/ some kids so it was cool to create somewhat of a church feel in some senses.
monday night I also ended up coordinating our first students of color meeting. it was perhaps one of my highlights so far in terms of work and engaging with students (no surprise). about 14 people showed up and after some getting to know you activities, we just engaged in some discussion about our experience so far. for many of the students and myself, it was a much needed time to acknowledge the cultural and environmental differences in our experiences on this voyage.
today is the last day of our nine day stretch of sailing. we'll arrive in Cadiz, Spain and dock early in the morning. i haven't had much time to do planning for each of the ports, but it seems that Spain will be one of the "easier" countries to travel in. the plan is to visit madrid and perhaps sevilla if time permits.
btw1....i have yet to experience sea sickness at all and haven't even needed to take anything
btw2....i am very grateful for such, because many people have been strugglin
btw3....food on the ship is pretty great....for what that's worth
