After the excitement of sailing we headed to the small town of 1770 for a chilled out few days and our first visit to surf school. The less said about this the better as after 3 hours on the beach I still couldn't stand up on the boartd and even have scars on my knees from trying - definately not a success!!!
We left 1770 and got the bus down to another small town called rainbow beach to prepare for our 4WD camping trip to fraser island. we had a meeting the day before and a very stressful shopping trip for supplies for 10 people for 3 days!! we were driving the jeep ourselves around an island that is basically a huge sand dune , the beaches are the roads and also landing strips for aeroplanes on the islands!!! I hadn't expected the driving to be as scary as it actually was on the island . . . it was like driving on snow on the beaches and the boys quite liked putting their foot down which got quite scary, the inland roads didn't even resemble roads half of the time and we were thrown about the jeep a lot, how we got it back in one piece i have no clue!!
The camping was like nothing else i have ever experienced - more bugs and flies than I have ever seen in my entire life, literally crawling all over us all night, we have all been bitten to shreds. Did do some cool things though, saw some good freshwater lakes which we could actually swim in for once, took a walk to the top of a cliff to see sharks swimming in the water below us and saw lots of wild dingos that live on the island.
Unfortunately after a few too many glasses of goon on the first night, cat and alex decided to playfight at the camp and cats ankle was broken!! so she spent 2 days hobbling round until we got back to he mainland, she now has a cast and crutches for about 4 weeks, its only a hairline fracture though so could have been a lot worse!!
The 2 nights camping would have probably put me off camping for life if we hadn't already booked another 3 day camoing camping trip starting tomorrow . . . so looking forward to being eaten alive yet again, this time in the noosa evaglades - will let you know how it goes!
