Alas our journey of the Amalfie is now over. The last 2 days have both been exciting and amazing.
Friday, the group of 13 leave Sorento to go the Isle of Capri. This isle lies about 2-3 kilometers from the coast of Napales, this Is where the rich and famous hangout. The boat leaves at 9.20 am,take 30 minutes and we are there. As we enter the port the first thing that catces my eyes are the number of flash boats moored everywhere. We all disembark and ride the cable car from the port to the village of Capri. A decision must now be made to walk or not to walk , Shirley Di and I decide that we will not do the tour walk and used that time to explore the great shops and of course the wine bars Capri and Anacapri have to offer. A short time at Capri ,find an autobanc, cup of caffe, then off to Anacapri. To do this we travel by mini bus to the top, the road is really made to take one car at a time but the bus driver believes that the road belong to him only and drives accordingly, frightenly fast. We do arrive safe but now more than any time need to pee, with that accomplished the girls hit the shops. There are many high class brand names here and it not long before the first purchased is found, shoes, yes you read it right SHOES. Not just any shoes but shoes measured and cut then made to fit the feet of stars or normal people like Shirley and Dianne, please don't think of the cost as that is just a material thing ,think about the bragging rights these two beautiful women now have, hand made Itlian shoes.
Back down the hill to Capri, because all that excitement leaves a girl drained and looking for the comfort of a glass of prosecco.we find a cute little bar overlooking the sea and sit ourselves down and get set for a recovery session. All was good til Shirley needed a pee,off she goes, comes back and burst into laughter. Her time a the loo had a very strange occurrence ,and old man approached her and Shirley thought he said "can I watch," Shirley said " WHAT!" the old man replyed with the same answer, Shirley said to him you want to watch and by now is backing up against the wall, the old now very red in the faced looks at Shirley reaches for his wash bucket and says, no no no can I wash before you go in.Just shows what a language problem can be.
Saturday we are off to the Naples to see the old city of Pompai, arrive there at 9.00am , beat the crowds .this is an amazing place , the destruction that occurred and now the history that has been uncovered is fascinating but the feeling of great loss is what hit me ,all those lives lossed in 3days it was very sad. One story told by our guide Claudio was how Pompai was a town where many nationality would come to ,so many languages were spoken, so to get round this the sex industry carved symbols of a man's body part into the cobble stones so foreigner could find his way to a brothel, upon reaching the red light area he would enter and there would be an array of pictures, for him to choose from so that all would be satisfied
We have had fun and adventure on the Amalfi coast and would recommend if you get the opportunity that you come and see what we have . We have the name of ,what we believe is the best guide on the Amalfic coast, Marcello.
