Bali sania hotel, "where dreams cum true"., as the beer sleaves proclaimed. Classic Asian grammer error. They're more common than you think. 'chicken Gordon blue (cordon bleu for the slower friends!) always makes us laugh. Very friendly place geared up for the Aussies but they're real Aussies here. Not the aging surfer dude types. Met one guy who's been here 7 years. Says he can't find the door out.
Spent our first day here going to Denpasar, balis capital. It's like a massive trade fair with bustling streets, mega traffic and a deal to be had everywhere. We needed a laptop and got one for under £200 within 5 mins. They took an hour and a half to load it up with all the software we could wish for for free. Felt a bit too good to be true as all evidence suggests not to buy electronics here but we can't fault it. You just have to accept that the customer service isn't what you would expect in the uk. We sat in a sweaty geek box waiting for the contriband software to be uploaded. No other westerners around apart from a couple of beefcakes who walked in and swiftly back out again. Some people are just not trusting enough. Would have been longer waiting too if ever impatient Katie hadn't stormed the geek headquarters asking how much longer would it be! It turns out it had been ready ages but our none-English speaking salesman dissapeared back to his stall without telling us. The indogeeks sorted it though and we got a taxi back. We knew the price of a taxi now so when the driver tried to haggle we didn't stand for it and I think he was a bit gutted he got the proper fare. If you tell them the right price and they don't like it they try to palm you off with 'use the meter?' if you say ok to that you go the long way home so we stuck to our guns. Is suppose Reading these blogs it might sound a bit hostile, the haggling, but it's all done with a smile. They're just trying to make a living at the end of the day. Some people ask where you are from before they haggle and the reply of 'england' keeps the price down. Americans and Aussies generally pay more for eveything!
Anyway got the laptop home and started to download our photos to facebook and looking into Australia. Deffinately need to plan that bad boy before we get there. Can't afford to wing it like here. If things don't go to plan in Indonesia it costs about an extra £10 to sort. Different story in Oz altogether.
