Well everyone, I survived my first day back at work today after nearly 6 months of not having to get anywhere near a desk. I probably shouldn't mention that I only had to do 6 hours but it was rather nice starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm! I will be back on full time hours next week (I can hear some of you thinking 'part timer') The job is with a company called Alignment who are a recruitment, communications and HR consulting firm. I'm basically going to be recruiting a large number of Christmas temporary workers for a big retail chain here in New Zealand, called The Warehouse and also for two fashion retailers similar to Topshop back home.
I'm going to be working with 4 other girls who are all local Kiwi's and there's also 4 other girls who are permanent staff, again all kiwi's apart from one who is Scottish and decided to stay here I think after coming over on a Working Holiday Visa (don't start panicking just yet Mum!).
All of us are under 30, so it's quite a young team. Our boss is Richard, who went out and got us all coffee and cake this morning, which went down a treat during our training. Not going to make too many judgements after 6 hours but I think the next couple of months should be pretty fun but will probably be quite manic at times.
Starting to get to know my way around Auckland - it's only taken a month! I went to a Food Show at a place like Earls Court last weekend, although I didn't see or taste much in the way of food - just rather a lot of wine and alcohol ! I'm going to a show on Saturday night which has been given rave reviews here and have been looking at whale and dolphin watching tours and similar things to do over the next few weeks and months. Bon Jovi are playing live here in November, so I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a ticket for that too. I've been steering clear of the bungy jumps, but a crazy American did a rather good job at trying to sell me a sky dive today but I'd still say it was still pretty unlikely! White water rafting may be nearer the mark.
Hope you are all enjoying the most of the sunshine back home, it will be heading over here pretty soon, and I can't wait for the summer to arrive here!
Got a bottle of wine waiting back at the apartment, so I'm gonna head off.
