Whistler's a bit short on snow at the moment! Arrived after awet bus trip up the mountains on Saturday, saw some beautiful forests and lakes en route, shrouded in mist. Checked into House and was the first in my room. I now have 2 roommates, a bloke called Happy and another guy called Matt who arrived today. Both aussies of course. We're getting a girl in too sometime soon.
It's been a week officially no, and we now have a TV and ipod speakers and the compulsory Aussie flag mounted on the wall and a relatively full fridge so I wont starve.
After hunting through the entire Village on Sunday, I found a bargain pair of last years demos of $225 CAD, and they are a sweet pair of skis. The 170cms seem to be going ok on the groomers so far. The first day was great, clear sky, quite warm (too warm for my liking) and Ryan, (another Canadian) was a great tour guide for Lou and Me as we took our first Gondola and put in our first turns.
On my second day I did have a spectacular stack on the Orange Peel - not sure how - but I managed to be on my back, sliding headfirst down the hill and every time I tried to dig my edge in and stop my self I just flipped over and kept sliding! A good 50-60 m at least!!
Third day I managed to stay on my feet and the clouds managed to snow a little bit, but we're all hanging out for a major major dump.
The night life has been lively and interesting. Having a quiet one in tonight, hanging out with half a dozen people in one of the rooms. Other nights we've been to the Longhorn, Maxx Fish, Black's Pub, Cinnamon Bear, Crystal Lounge, Tommy Africa's and a couple of other places around the village. The cover charges suck, the drinks are expensive and the bar tenders walk around with shots on their belts ready to serve you. But the music is great and the places are packed.
So what else is there to report - so much has happened in just a week that it feels like a lot longer. the days mash together so it doesnt really matter that we're having a Saturday night in. Will be up the mountain again tomorrow, its great that the blackcomb gondola is open this weekend so I dont have to lug my skis up and down that awful hill, such a mission in ski boots believe me!
Hopefully there'll be some snow! It's been raining enough!
