Hey hey, missing you guys muchly……
May 10th
Hell, they say, is other people. I think I can be more specific: Hell is other people's families. Especially, when they're having some enormous Christmas-worthy row in a language I don't understand that somehow involves each one trying to score points by force-feeding me. Still, now I've taken refuge from the shouting and the feeding it's given me some valuable time to say…
…… thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you (thank you) for making my brief visit to good old blighty so darn good. And thank you even more for not being f***ing mental (or at mental in a lovely and refreshing way). I was mightily glad to be reminded that somewhere in this world there is a small corner where you can cross the road without 5 million pairs of eyes watching your every move, where it's okay to want to do something that some else doesn't want you to do (free will and autonomy being alien concepts here), where you hire and fire staff on the basis of merit not on what your guru says (oh yes, the cockroach is back), and where having a cigarette means you like cigarettes not that you want to sleep with all and every man in the vicinity.
But that's just while I'm here - back in inglaterra I was just glad to be cooked gorgeous food, glad to relax and laugh and wear silly hats and furry cloaks with my lovely friends and family, glad to have interesting conversations about all our varied and exciting lives, and glad to remember how lucky I am to be me - and to have you. I really appreciate all of you making the effort. So thank you. I love you all. Hugest apologies to everyone I didn't get to see, especially those I stood up in the last few days (the inevitable hecticness took over). Plenty more time for that in years to come though, and I promise a phone call or four in the near future. And I'm sorry to everyone I promised I'd see in six months - Jess' maths needs a little work and it's actually eight.
So back to the living hell. I'll just leave a short note to say that stage one of Jess' survive-India mark II plan is going very well - managed to find a helpful friend and possibly some fellow western interns in search of a place to live, and I'm going flat hunting tomorrow. Woo woo! Will keep you posted. In other news, I'm off to Tamil Nadu on Thursday for a spot of toilet inspecting (finally!), and just sent off an email to a five star hotel in Delhi booking some rooms in June. Ah, it's a hard life, eh!
Thank you again and love you all so much and …… see you for a drink next week, yes?
Jess xxxx
