Today we went to see Angkor Wat, an ancient palace which is the largest complex over there and Camboda's most nationally recognised landmark. The day got off to an untresting start as Dad finally got a chance to use his first aid kit to help an elderly French tourist; the poor man had fallen and taken skin off his elbow in the gravel. We then walked all throughout Angkor Wat. My favourite feature of the site were the twin libraries which face each other in the grounds (you can see one in the left of the picture). The grounds were beautiful and extensive, with 'natural' features such as a lagoon as well as the beautiful ancient buildings. At the time we were there, repair work was being done on the buildings of Angkor Wat. I later found out that a team of Sydney University students were involved in the reconstruction! We saw a lot of beautiful and remarkable things, climbed a lot of stairs and even posed for photo's with a troupe of actor/dancer/model Cambodian's dressed in traditional outfits and costumes. After our visit to Angkor Wat we went to Ta Phrom which is Cambodia's most internationally recognisable site after it appeared in films such as Tomb Raider and Transformers 3. This ancient site has been ruined by the tree roots which make it so unique as the trees have grown through the temples. This was probably my favourite temple complex. Me and Dad may have even jumped the tourist fence and stood in Angie's doorway! After this we went and saw Angkor Thom, which was fantastic. A very full but amazing day!
