Pinch and punch for the first day of the month!
Up early this morning for our flight. We had a quick breakfast downstairs, practiced some Italian basics, found a taxi driver and went on a scary ride to the airport. It seems our driver was in a hurry to get there...
Checked in and ready to board our easyJet flight to Venice. EasyJet don't have allocated seats. Its free seating...quite weird. On our flight we got to see the Swiss Alps!! Amazing from the air.
We landed in a 30degree Venice, nice and sunny. Time to figure out transport to our hotel. At first we went to the taxi rank. But were quickly told he couldn't drive to our location(of course everything is surrounded by water!) so he suggested we take the water taxi. €110 for a water taxi?! I think not. So we opted for the water bus €15 and we get dropped one street from our hotel.
Venice is beautiful. Just like the brochure. Cute little waterways, boats all around and where we are staying is the major tourist district right near the train station so feeling safe.
We found our hotel down a quiet back alley with lots of restaurants, some closed for the holidays. After checking into our hotel and feeling mighty chuffed that we read the whole description of the room and got a private bathroom, unlike the Australians in front of us, we freshened up and headed out on the town.
First stop, lunch, and what better way to say bonjourno Italy than with some traditional Italian pizza. Of the many pizzeria's around we decided on "Gino's Pizza & Pasta". I had a margarita pizza and Chris had the "Romana", basically a margarita with anchovies, and an Italian beer. Both were very tasty and we were stuffed by the end of it.
After lunch we went for a bit of a stroll and found the "coop" (supermarket) and stocked up on bottled water and a few nibblies.
We then headed back to our air-conditioned hotel to rest our feet in preparation for a big day of walking tomorrow.
Ciao.
