Just had the longest day of life yesterday traveling from La Paz to Uyuni. It took a four hour bus ride then seven hour train ride. I think I would prefer an overnight ride then a day trip like this because it was just so damn long. Anyways enough of me complaining sorry about that. We arrived safely in Uyuni about 10pm at night. We were all quite exhausted so you'd imagine how mad me and my roommate got when we found our toilet wouldn't flush in our room . We got one of the reception guys to come up and take a look and all he said in Spanish was you just need to lift the top off and pull a lever and then push the button all with the lid off. Immediately I thought wow man if this was any other hotel or even dodgy motel I'm sure the staff would try get someone to fix it or at least give us another room. My roommate used the toilet after and boom not flushing at all . Lucky we were only there for one night.
The next morning we packed a three day bag and all got into 4x4 cars and headed off to the desert. First stop was a train cemetery. Initially when I got told we were hitting up a train cemetery I was like wtf is that ? Anyways it's basically a graveyard for old beat up rusted train. Believe it or not it was actually quite cool especially posing for photos on and in some of the trains. Afterwards we drove to a town and had lunch. I couldn't believe people live out here in the middle of bum f*** no where and the towns are s*** holes to sum it up.
We then drove to the valley of the volcanic rocks which was great to see... I mean basically it's just a valley with ... Volcanic rocks everywhere . Last stop was a lagoon full of beautiful pink flamingos . I actually really enjoyed today . I sat in front of the 4 x 4 and it was so amazing the surrounding scenery we drove through. Mountains , deserts, lagoons and volcanos .
That night we stayed at a hostel near another lagoon with even more flamingos. This lagoon stunk real bad though . It's the sulphur which gives it the rank smell. It was an Eco lodge so everything was environmentally friendly. Power ran of a solar generator . I got excited when I saw a wifi sign posted on the building and asked my guide about if she laughed at me and basically said heck no wifi out here . b***** . Guess I'll survive ...
