Hello from Sucre ! I'm still in Bolivia have two more nights here and then cross the border to Bolivia . I've been in Sucre for two nights so far and it's a really nice city . Colonial buildings and beautiful churches fill the centre part of the city . It's known as the city of white and it's clear why with nearly all buildings painted white.
I had a bit of a set back a few days ago when I was in the town of Potosi . I found out someone got hold of my card details and took money from an ATM in Quito . I wish I knew sooner but I was lucky it was only one day they did the transactions. Yesterday was a stressful day trying to fill out a big ass form to try get my money back. The women on the phone said I should get it back so I'm checking my email a lot now for correspondence. Apparently ATM card fraud is common in some areas of South America .. I thought Brazil was the main area for this but now add Quito . Actually I met a German girl who said the same thing happened to her in Quito .
Anyways I'm in a better mood today . Went out with people from my tour to dinner at a French restaurant. Now even though food and drink it cheap as in Bolivia ( the other day I paid 5 bucks at a cafe for a burger , fries and a drink ) the service is slow and poor. Last night was a classic example . Our food took a while to come out especially mine and another girls meal. We didn't end up eating until after 10 pm. They didn't apologise or give any compensation whatsoever . All I can say was lucky the food was cheap and the daiquiris were strong and tasty. Afterwards we all went out for drinks at a cafe / bar called the Joy Ride cafe . This is a really touristy backpackers bar. We all got quite drunk and then headed off to a discoteca where we were the only ones there. It was good to see the group get loose . We ran into two people from our last trip who got off the tour in La Paz. They are from Switzerland and are so much fun . We all miss them !
Today I'm taking it easy. Our guide took us to a place called El Patio and had the famous local pasty saltanas . Then I went and had a small look around the local markets which weren't anything to rave about. Now I'm waiting around at the hotel until my nail appointment . It's only 25 bolivianos for a manicure or pedicure . Which works out to be about 4 aus dollars . How cheap is that ?!?
Tomorrow we are off to Santa Cruz by plane ( only half hr flight ) . We spend one night here and then cross the border to Brazil . I'm so excited for Brazil ! It's only 17 days until Carnivale . Woo hoo !
