Jessica's Travels
I´ve had a really nice few days, both with socialising and sightseeing (night and day activities in BA - sleep seems to be last priority!).
On Saturday I met up with a couple of girls I´d spoken to that afternoon, one of whom has been here in BA for a week before starting on a GAP trip up to Rio. She invited me and Emi (another new friend) out with them and a merry bunch of 7 of us went out to Asia de Cuba, which is such a nice club in the Puerto Madero area - not terribly backpacky, but that was what I needed, to see some of the side of the city that I would normally see if I was visiting. We had loads of fun, but came back at about 5:30 cos we had plans for the next day and hadn´t slept for a few nights due to the oppressive heat. It gives you some idea of how much of a party hostel Milhouse is that not one of mine or Emi´s room mates (a total of 8 other people) had yet come back!
Spent Sunday morning wandering around Palermo, which is so where I would like to live if I stayed here. Its all lovely bars and boutiques (nice, but still quite cheap - if only I had some space in my bag!) and a relaxed, safe atmosphere compared to lots of parts of South America. Met Emi at lunchtime and went to the Sunday market at San Telmo, which was really busy and interesting - its quite a bohemiam area, and there are musicians and dancers performing, and art and antiques being sold everywhere. Lovely day, which we finished off with sushi and steak in Las Canitas - pretty perfect!
Yesterday I went on a ferry over to Colonia Del Sacramento, in Uruguay. It was charming and chilled and its easy to see why UNESCO have names it a site of cultural significance, with it´s cobbled streets and cute houses. Having said that, it´s a bit too quiet for me and after the initial "ooohs" there isn´t that much to do! Was quite pleased to come back to BA. When I went to buy the ticket with a friend the guys behind the counters were flirting with us and gave me a discount - turned out he sent me home in first class for the price of a tourist class ticket, so I got a nice glass of champagne and a huge squishy seat - not something I suppose I´ll get to experience much more!
I am flying down south to El Calafate this afternoon. Not sure how long the flight is, but looking at the map I´m guessing at least a couple of hours - Argentina is so massive! Might try and fit in some last min shopping before I leave BA...
