Leaving the airport terminal in San Jose we are greeted by more taxi drivers than one country could ever need. But being the season travellers we are we decide that the only way for us to travel is by bus, with the locals....if only we could find that bus...! With that sorted we are almost ripped off by the bus driver for our fare but a lovely Costa Rican lady steps in to help us and even pays some of our fare. We don't know how far we have to go or where to get off and after asking around we just decide to jump off the bus before its too late. We find a petrol station to ask for directions only to learn that Costa Ricans just don't use addresses. The whole thing is quite the event and after a sweaty walk with our large backpacks we soon realise a taxi may have been the smarter option. BUT, you live and learn.
Our day and a half in Alajuela consists of a lot of sleep, a lot of rain and a new found gratitude for our sound proofing at home! The owner of our hotel is a charming guy who gives us loads of tips for our stay in his country and his dad is the spitting image of Manuel from faulty towers, and is also rather found of Bob Marley, he's a character to say the least!
The second city of Costa Rica can be described as a charming insight into the country... But now...we're heading to the beach...
