We arrived into Queenstown on Friday and checked into our double room (wahoo!). We headed straight to the world famous 'Fergburger cafe' for a huge burger, the best burger we have ever tasted! We took a dip in the hotel hot tub to prepare for our night out that night. Our driver had arranged loads of drinks deals for us in some of the bars which meant we had a very wild first night out.
We woke up suprisingly fresh after our lie in and decided to go up the mountain to go luging again as we had so much fun last time. The views over Queenstwon were the best we had seen yet and the luging was so much fun. We also watched a couple of people bungy jump which made us even more scared for our canyon swing the following day.
That night we decided to go on the bar crawl that Lucy had won, along with one of the guys from our bus and his whole rugby team! We did not dress for the occassion and were absolutely freezing between bars. We managed to lose the pub crawl, as well as the whole rugby team (not sure how we managed that) and so ended up drinking teapots of cocktails to ourselves before ending the night in McDonalds after clubbing all our remaining money together.
Again feeling fresh, we prepared for our canyon swing - which only meant one thing - FACEPAINTS! Seeing it as the perfect opportunity for fancy dress we made good use of our where's wally tops (again) and dressed as clowns. The walk to the canyon swing shop was very entertaining and we got a few funny looks on the way. The staff were very impressed with our fancy dress, which was worrying as we had been told they like to mess with your heads, alot. We were the last ones to go out of the group which made us more nervous. We opted for the scariest jump - backwards tandem. With our heels off the edge of the 109m high canyon, and the staff holding onto us while we leaned backwards, we made some very strange noises before taking the worst ever backwards jump at 150kph. As expected, we screamed the whole way down, but it was so much fun!
We had a very early night last night, watching 'We now pronounce you Chuck and Larry' after an excellent tea (getting better!) ready for sledging the following day. After 3 weeks of perfect sunshine, we assumed the weather would be the same, we were wrong. When we arrived at the mountain, sledges in hand, there was a huge snow storm. We were the only ones, out of 500 people, with no ski clothes on, no gloves and a sledge rather than skis/boards. We ambitiously ventured up a very steep section of the mountain for our first sledge. Jess tested the slope before deciding it was a little too steep but Lucy stupidly gave it a go anyway, and went hurtling down the hill before crashing into a rock, getting covered in snow, grazing her legs and cutting her chin a little. Jess found this hilarious once she realised Lucy was actually alive. We then opted for the nursery slopes instead which were just as much fun but we got very very cold and almost took out by a few very unimpressed skiers, but still, sledging in July was a bit of a novelty and we had so much fun!
After a long nap this afternoon after the traumatic sledging experience, we are ready to go out tonight for our last night in Queenstown and go to Christchurch, our last NZ stop, tomorrow morning.
