We spent our last night in Queenstown getting very drunk with our lovely Dutch friend Simone with the help of many free drinks from some kind aussies. We danced on the platforms and unfortunately Simone took a tumble head first onto the floor - hilarious! We ate the remainder of our 22 inch pizza which we had bought for tea that night before we went to bed, ready for our early wake up to head to Christchurch in the morning.
We had been warned that there 'isn't much to do in Christchurch' as the main part of the city was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake. 'Not much to do' was a huge understatement. When we arrived at our hostel we were unimpressed to find other people in our 6 bed dorm (pffft!) so attempted to go shopping to avoid small talk - our fave. The receptionist suggest the Restart Centre nearby which was a shopping centre made from ship containers, we don't know why we assumed this was going to be the Trafford Centre. They were the oddest, worst bunch of shops we have ever been in and so we decided on a McDonalds to cheer us up. We sat in Maccy's for over 2 hours using the free wifi and watching some of the Olympics before taking the scary walk back to the hostel with no one around in the ghost town.
Unfortunately we had another day to waste in Christchurch and optimistically headed to a different shopping centre '15-20 minutes walk away' AN HOUR LATER we arrived at a decent enough shopping centre but with no money there wasn't much we could do so we opted for a trip to the cinema. We watched Ted and it was the highlight of our time in Christchurch (except the food). On the way back we had a Chinese we had been craving for several days. It was huge and we only managed to finish about a quarter of it. We watched the Olympics before bed, excited to fly to Singapore in the morning - NEVER GO TO CHRISTCHURCH.
