Namaste from Delhi!
You'll be pleased to hear that we arrived safe and sound! Our flight from Heathrow was delayed by about an hour and a half- something to do with 'technical problems' which is never something you want to hear about a plane you're about to board! Flight was good- have to say not too impressed with Virgin, especially after all the rave reviews I've heard about them. The plane was pretty shoddy and had definitely been in service for a good few years. We were sat in the 'silvertop' section (N.B. Eurostar colleagues- even saw a few Riviera luggage tags- aah, I'll never escape them!) and were therefore surrounded by old people. Could have been worse- at least there were no screaming children nearby!
Arrived about 1pm, and after the usual airport formalities- immigration, swine flu check (that's a new one!) and baggage collection, we found our driver who was taking us to the hotel. The drive to the hotel was a tad scary at times (especially as there were no seat belts!) but I had confidence in the driver as he seemed to know what he was doing! He did have to perform an emergency stop when a cow stepped into the road, but I guess that's an everyday occurence here!
Checked into the hotel which is really nice. Glad we paid a bit extra for our first couple of nights- at least I'm guaranteed some decent sleep before we embark on our overnight train journeys! After a few hours kip we headed to the rooftop restaurant and had a delicious meal. The staff are extremely attentive and friendly and the food is very good. Rather than leave tips on the table, they have a clay 'tips jar' duck which they break into once it's full. Andrew attempted to discretely put a couple of notes into the jar, however he managed to get them stuck and a member of staff had to use a wooden spoon type-thing to unblock the money hole. Very amusing (well for me anyway!)
Heading to bed now- we've got a very early start tomorrow as going to Agra by train to see the Taj Mahal. Can't wait!
