Words cannot begin to explain how we both feel right now first trip outside our hostel and its just CRAZY, traffic, smells, smells that make me want to puke, there is raw meat everywhere sitting in the heat a culture shock just isn't the word! The humidity is high its hot and clear. Were walking around like lost sheep, a thai approaches us and starts telling us where to go here there and everywhere. So this random TUK TUK arrives and we get on it. It takes us to see a standing Budda our first temple, we are told that Friday morning is a special holiday so all temples are free entry! We both get off and get some photos outside the temple, there was a lady selling birds in tiny cages must of been about 5 birds in each cage the sign clearly says to take to the birds into the temple for luck for a price of 90thb.
Radleigh didn't get chance to read this so he takes the bird cage off the lady and tried to walk away to the entrance of the temple. Before he had chance to go anywhere she was shouting 90thb with an angry face haha! He started to get his wallet out and I burst into laughter and explained what the trick was, he gives her the birds back and we walked away a bit sharp, you just had to be there it was hilarious. Haven't let Radleigh live this down yet he's a pretty birdy!
We get back into the TUK TUK and go to the next temple, this one isn't as pretty, another thai was there almost like he was waiting for us, everyone was so over friendly. This thai tells us all about a place called SUP fashion, he tells us its like the Versace of Italy and that we should stop, well this was already a destination drawn on our map given by the guy who said he worked for the bank..... Next stop SUP fashion, we thought it would be a factory but actually it was just a small shop! The shop assistant takes us into the back room and wants to start measuring Radleigh for a Taylor made suit which he would post back to our home address :-/ We listened to his spiel for about 5 minutes and then polietly spoke our way out of it... Feeling quite tricked we get back into the TUK TUK where our next destination is the TAT, thinking this is a government tourist information centre and not just a travel agents we go inside and some guy tried selling us a ticket to Laos as a package FOR ABOUT 450 pound which is actually really expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!We realised something just wasn't right when he couldn't provide us with single railway tickets, he insisted on selling us a package only.
Again we managed to talk our way out of it, feeling quite flustered we ask the TUK TUK driver to take us back to our hostel, he wasn't keen on this, he was determined to take us to the TAT HQ because he will get free gasoline, the looks on our faces must of said it all we had to pay this guy more money to get us back but he did it with a face like a bears arse!
We got back to the hostel, which is surprisingly clean I may add and we lay talking about the experience so far both in complete shock and not really knowing what to expect next, both equally starving as the street food smelt like sewage it was just awful no way neither of us were risking it. That evening we popped out to the MBK shopping centre, it was HUGE, the security is really tight on entrance and you even have your bags checked and walk through a scanner which scans you for any metal. We eat our first meal which cost four pound for us both, sounds cheap but actually having spent a week here now this is quite expensive for travellers. Food was good we had a mooch about and then got a taxi back which of course ripped us off! The next morning we woke up in stiches couldn't believe all the trickers, we thanked god we didn't spend any money on the tricks and laughed it off agreeing we wouldn't get back into another TUK TUK or Taxi unless we really really have to, most of budget so far had been spent on transport so we have taken to walking and local buses which actually means we get to see loads more :D.
We spent another couple of nights in Bangkok we met a lovely canadian couple which both work as teachers, got some really handy tips from them and we also went to the zoo which was an experience, not quite like the zoo's back home but it was a fun day out. Hopefully will get some pictures online soon!
We arrived in Phuket by a 12 hour bus journey a couple of nights ago been to our first beach which happened to be a private one on a luxury hotel! We stood out like a dogs d*** walking through the hotel but no one approached us so we kept our heads down and walked sharp, there were no tourists in site, just a few empty long boats, blue water and sky. We purchased a pair of fake Raybans each today at Karon Beach, both look quite cool haha or maybe not, went to posh restaraunt and worked out our money so far, realised thats the last bit of luxury we have for a while were living like porpers but we LOVE this adventure more than words can say!! Heading to a beach hut in Krabi in a couple days, looks like a travellers heaven, anyway I Have to go again but will update again soon :-) Hope England isn't to cold ;-) Take care Jenn and Radleigh xxx
