Jenny's Travels
Singapore is lovely - very expensive though. 6 quid for a pint of cider - what's that all about?! Needless to say me and Fanny have been emptying our bank accounts! Stayed with my best mate from schools mum and dad (Liz and Jim) which was soooooo nice! After spending a month in sweaty Thailand, it was a relief to get somewhere that had a proper flushing toilet and air con (heaven or what?!) Their apartment was so nice though, and we got completely spoilt! It had a swimming pool, tennis courts etc. They even treated us to a champagne lunch in a hotel called the Fullerton (they said that the Ritz was fully booked - no joke!). I nearly pooped my panties when they told me! It was absolutely heaven in Sinapore for shopping - there were malls on ever corner, and wee bargains in every store (well, nearly every store - we never ventured into Varsace or Gucci though!). In Singapore we went to Sentosa which was really nice - took a cable car over (as you'll see from the pics - the views were lovely!). We went to a flutterbye park for Fanny and she pooped herself - kept shouting out 'NO. NO. NO. Flutter, Flutter, Flutter' - I thought at one point maybe she needed help?! We also got taken to the famous Long Bar at Raffles Hotel - where we just HAD to sit at the bar and have a wee Singapore Sling. It's tradition there to eat monkey nuts and chuck the shells on the ground - what's all that about by the way?! We met up with the two tarts we met in Thailand (Kelly and Karen) and had a few nights out with them too. We also bought tickets to go and see Oasis (OH MY GOD!). How exciting. We were totally skint, so we had to get like the crappiest seats ever, but still, we saw them! I think you'll see by the photo's how far away we actually were. Sang at the tops of our voices (well, we tried to anyways!) We also went on a night safari and to the Zoo aswell. The Zoo was massive (we spent a whole day there). Even managed to get the MRT all by ourselves there and not get lost - come on us! Saw heaps of cool animals - white tigers, giraffes, jaguars etc. We went to see a show called the 'wonders of the world'. Fan wanted to sit right down the front in the middle. Later realised it was called the 'splash area' - give away any clues?! That's about all we really done in Singapore. To sum up, Singapore was really nice - not really the place to go for backpackers though, unless you're a rich backpacker (which I'm afraid you just don't get!). Looking forward to getting to Australia. NEXT COUNTRY!
Funny Quotes of Singapore:
1. Fanny - 'I love circles, they've got no corners'?????!!!!!
2. Fanny opens the door to a taxi and says to the driver 'Are you waiting on a ride?' (doesn't sound that funny till you realise that the driver was on the corner of the local prostitute corner.......!)
3. Me talking to Fanny about folk leaving Oasis Concert early: 'Who would want to do that Fan? That's like buying a Magners and leaving some, you just wouldn't do it'!
4. In the backpackers, I helped fan lift her huge bag on her back, and a wee one on her front, and I said: 'Can you give me a hand with mine please?', and she turns round and says 'No, I'm ok thanks'. (Duh, she thought I was asking her if she needed a hand with her small bag while I was stood carrying nothing on my back!)
5. Funny joke we saw in a pub - 'Why does Santa not have any children? Cos he only comes once a year and it's down a chimney'!!!
