So yesterday we went to Niagara falls as part of an International student trip. It was incredible! I've never been anywhere like it, it makes any waterfall ive seen in England look like a water fountain!
We did the Maid on the Mist boat trip into the falls and were very lucky being the first people on the boat so we got prime position right at the front of the top deck (as recommended by Erin). The trip lasted about 20 minutes and it was so fun, kind of seemed like a ride to be honest. I just totally didn't expect how powerful the mist would be and they take you right into the centre of it so we all ended up soaked! It was so worth it though, the weather turned out perfect aswell as the sun came out just as wwe got on the boat, even though it had predicted rain. There was also a rainbow that came right into the falls as we were on the boat, it was unbelievably beautiful!
We're all talking about having a trip back there at some point this year and maybe staying in the area for a couple of days as theres so many other attractions there too. Next time we want to do the boardwalk around the falls which ive heard is meant to be amazing. Unfortunately we didn't end up having too much to time to explore due to the unorganisation of the group leaders. But I still had time to spend money in the gift shop on a Niagara postcard, Maid in the Mist license plate and a moose in a wooly jumper (of course!).
The night before we went to Niagara we got invited to a frat party by a Canadian girl one of our friends knows. We were a bit cautious seen as as soon as we told our housemates they both said 'good luck' etc. But it was actually a really nice night. So unlike Leeds though, they provided the drink and Id'ed you to get into their house and then inside they had set up a sort of dancefloor and then a room where people were playing beer pong. Apparently this fraternity are a little bit geeky but means they're alot nicer and not as arrogant as all the others and we all actually had a really good night. It was so good to just talk to some Canadians as at the moment we are sticking with the international students most of the time.
Last weekend we also went to our first Canadian football game at Uni, which was so fun! And bizarre! Its literally just like out of the films, everyone gets all dressed in Uni colours and they have mascots and the players ran out of this inflatable tunnel with smoke around them. During the game cheerleaders came round too and they did lots of chants for the crowd to join in on. There was even a woman holding a massive flag on a horse with a glitter tattoo that ran around the field every so often!!
The game itself seems a bit silly though, they are constantly stopping and starting and I have no clue how the point system works but anyway Western Mustangs beat Toronto (who scored 0 points) so everyone seemed pretty happy. The next game we're going to is Homecoming which apparently is a massive deal here and even people who hate footabll get involved and then make a whole day of it with street parties, a parade and going out in the evening. I can't wait too because Tasha and Ryan are coming to stay with us for that weekend! They live about an hour away at different Canadian Universities. It should be such a good weekend!
Canada is still so surreal.
