So this is it, the end of my Canadian exchange. After several unbelievably stressful days packing up my little life (and a few too many trips to goodwill) we are finally out of London and about to set off for 6 weeks of travelling. At this minute I'm actually on a night bus on my way to Boston, it seems the perfect time to actually get around to writing this, I'm sure 17 hours is long enough!
This year at Western has been one of the most amazing years of my life, (predictable phrase I know), but really the opportunities and places we've visited here were more than I ever expected. I've also made some really good friends along the way, many of them who I'll be able to stay in contact with back in England. I think Western was the perfect choice for me, I've realised that in many ways it is just the Canadian equivalent of Leeds. Although London isn't all that incredible, despite being the 10th largest city in Canada (and Justin Beiber's birthplace), we have had some really good nights out and spent way too many Sunday mornings in the best diners. Specifically Campus Hifi and Prince Alberts! The Uni itself has been amazing too, at first it seemed like a lot more work than was necessary but its actually really helped me learn about Psychology properly and to not just be cramming it in an hour before the exam. Homecoming also was a personal highlight of the Uni experience, Western has school spirit like no other University.
Now that I have a little time to relax I realise I am really going to miss Western and Canada in general, Cait and I just questioned why we are even going to America travelling first, we have become really attached to Canada (and Tim Hortons!). The last few days cemented this even more as we spent a few days in Elora with my family friends. Elora is labelled the prettiest city in Canada and I totally understand why. It is the perfect little Canadian town with a beautiful little centre and a lovely river running right through it. We visited all the local conservation grounds, which were incredibly beautiful and I actually saw my very first beaver (finally!). One day Christine also drove us to Niagara and we did a wine tasting tour in several different winerys, which was really interesting and fun. We even got to try Ice wine, which was delicious and sort of syrup-y. Apparently 95% of the world's Ice wine is made in the Niagara region. We also went to Niagara on the lake which was such a pretty tourist town and so much more of what you would expect of Niagara falls, rather than the Casinos and arcades!
Anyway I'm getting pretty tired now and I'm sitting in the pitch black on this coach so I'll finish this here. Just thought I'd write down my thoughts on the year as a little round up. The plan from here on is to arrive at Boston tomorrow, spend a few days there and then fly over to the West Coast to do..San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver, Banff, Jasper and Calgary. Its took a long time to organize but I am 100% sure it will be worth it! I'm going to try and write a blog for every place but don't blame if a few get combined or a little messy, I'm not great at keeping up with this and life gets busy very fast.
I'm sad this year is over but it has been soo much fun and made me much more independent and now I'm more than ready for some travelling and relaxing, making the most of the US and Canada while I'm here. Hope everyone is well back home, see you in 6 weeks!!
