Unfortunatly I've ended up being very behind on this blog due to being so crazily busy. But finally my mid-terms have finished and I'm going to try and use this week to catch up! (As instructed by Momma P!)
Ok..so going back about 3 weeks was Homecoming Weekend. This weekend really did live up to expectations and everything we had been told about it. The day was crazy, it began bright and early at 10am when alot of people headed out to Pancake Keggers. These are basically houseparties but you pay about $5-10 and get unlimited beer and pancakes! Disappointingly though, despite arriving at our friends' next door neighbour's kegger at 11, we had already missed out on pancakes! But the amount of people out on the streets at this time was mad, and EVERYONE was dressed head to toe in purple - the schools colours. I felt quite underdressed in my white Western mustangs t-shirt!
So after a couple of hours socialising at the kegger, which was in a huge student back garden (something unheard of in Leeds!) and with a DJ and sound system set up, we headed off for the main attraction of the day - the homecoming football game! Coincedentally Western mustangs were playing McMaster Uni, the university Ryan goes to and we had Ryan and Tasha over for the weekend to join in! Of course we made them dress in purple just to avoid sticking out in the sea of purple. We left the game pretty swiftly after realising we still had no idea what was actually going on and there were more fun things elsewhere (see picture!!) . The atmosphere really was incredible though, I really do understand when people talk about school spirit now. People here are so proud to be a part of Western, even on a normal day the amount of people you see in Western hoodies, t-shirts, wellies, bags, hats (You name it, they've got it!) is amazing. I think Leeds could do with a little bit more school spirit, you only really see people in Leeds hoodies and thats only when theyre feeling particularly slobby!
Anyway after the game we headed back to ours through the unbelievably crowded streets. One of the busiest - Broughdale, apparently later got closed off by the police! We ended up having a lot of our friends round at ours before some of us headed out downtown (the bars) in the evening. It really was suchh a fun day and we were so happy it was the same weekend Ryan and Tasha had came so we could really show off our University. I think everyone had a really good time.
Special mention must also be made to 'Campus Hifi Diner' an amazing cafe we discovered on the Sunday, which does huge breakfasts with sausage, eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon, maple syrup and lots of other very yummy things! All for about £4. We've already been back again!
