An early start saw us getting our minibus transfer to Ubud aka ubudu as Geoff constanty said!!...the drive was crazy! Dodging cars and scooters...bumping up onto the kerb trying to get past the traffic!! Thankfully we finally arrived....crashing out in our room we dumped our bags and headed into the town for some food. Checking out places to eat, drink and things to do was our plan for the rest of the day....the next day had us enjoy a lay in, finding some energy we decided to rent some bikes for the day....hearing about a nice biking track we decided to go for it!....however finding it became a bit of an issue as Matt was the map reader, sending us down one hell of a hill...when reaching the bottom and being told we needed to be back at the top...what?! Geoff pulled his angry face and turned round pushing our bikes back up the hill...we were grateful to find the turn off we missed the first time! Riding through an alleyway and along a tiny road like path we had emerged into the rice paddy fields....the most amazing scenery we had witnessed! Cycling along the tiny path proved difficult for matt when he lost his footing down the side of the path into a small river soaking his foot and bringing his bike with him!...ending up in a mess on the floor!....Jen and Geoff were in stitches!!!! Hahahaha!!! A nice passer by helped Matt to his feet....brushing himself off we headed to the only place around we could stop for a cool off and a drink....feeling refreshed we headed off back onto the tiny dirt trail....trying to cycle on it was a mission.....not for the steepness but for trying to keep the bikes on the small track, otherwise you were heading down the side of it! Which Matt had already experienced! Turns here and there, then a change of concrete to dirt to gravel....then a hill and back down again....it was hard work! Considering the sweltering heat too!! After plenty of photo stops and stops of just taking in the amazing view we came to the end....it led out onto a road.....now which way was it again?! We cycled (or pushed the bike in some cases) up the hill to find we came out onto a main road....this wasn't right....so back down again....we took a left turning instead which headed down a steep hill and across a bridge through an alleyway, coming to a fork in the track.....we were stumped! And after about 3 attempts back and forth, trying to find the path back we finally decided to head back the way we came! What a great idea! So this time we were on it, concentrating on getting home....Geoff was out in front and Jen was holding up Matt at the back....Matt was surprised Jen had managed to stay on the bike all this time....pointing out the fact she hadn't yet fallen off it! Ha....30 seconds later.....Jen was on the floor on top of her bike!!! Thanks Matt!!! A bruise or two later....we finally made it back to where we had started....dropping our bikes back we walked the rest of the way back to our place like John Wayne and crashed out on the bed!! It had been a long day, though one of the best in Bali so far! The next day we were picked up ready for a day tour of..........cycling!! Yep...another day of riding a bike! Our first stop was for breakfast overlooking the active volcano...what an awesome view! We then made our way to get our bikes.....yesterday's bruises were still evident though there was room for more! A nice easy ride took us along the roads around Ubud...stopping every now and then...one stop had us go into a traditional Balinese home...then onto some rice fields...stopping to help the locals beat the rice off for it to be dried out, making rice was all done manually by the women....everyday they would do the same thing just to earn a living. One thing we learnt, even though they didn't have everything they were happy and content! Our final stop was for lunch...yum! A buffet style which was considered to be the best in Ubud!! It was delicious!! Another exhausting day we headed back to base to collapse after our two days of cycling!....later that night we headed out for food...Geoff determined to find an Indian...which we finally found via a taxi ride to the other side of town! Though just what we needed!...however it was a long walk back to our place...after a beer stop we hitched a taxi home...ready for a lay in the following day. Feeling thankful that We had no plans....we made our way leisurely into the market. There was just so much on offer and so much to choose from it was all too much after a while....so finding a spot with the football on we chilled out for the rest of the afternoon, chatting away to the bartender...this was the life! It was our last night together so we got ourselves ready and headed into the town.....walking down the street something caught our eyes....people sitting around waiting for a show to start...we checked it out and thought what the hell! It was a traditional balinese fire dance!! It was so amazing to watch...a story being told just through dance around a fire, dancers coming from here there and everywhere in traditional dress and masks on...we were all surprise how good it was...so after being enticed by the dance we headed for some food, spoiling ourselves with a 3 course meal was the plan! Matt getting greedy ordered extra chillies for his pizza, one bite and he was coughing and spluttering, eyes watering, downing some drink to cool off.....hahaha!! Oh dear...safe to say they didn't get eaten! Calling it a night after a few beers ready for our early morning start to catch our flight to Singapore. It wasn't long before the alarm went off, great! Jen hates these early mornings!....grabbing our bags we said our goodbyes to Geoff...it was sad to leave but it had been an awesome 10 days...having someone else to share our experience with! The taxi ride was long and not one of the best with Jen being her usually sicky self....though we finally made it to the airport where the next part of our journey began!...back to Singapore for the night before our 7 hour flight to Melbourne...a day and a night there before our third flight in 3 days to Christchurch where we would stay for a night, then a 8 hour coach journey to our final destination......QUEENSTOWN!!!!
