Today was the big day for the volcano hike. We started at 7 and got done at 5. 10 hours of hiking. Everyone made it though. Pam going into it thinking she might just make it to the look out point and not go all the way up but then found out the look out was at the two kilometer instead of the five she thought originally- she also found this out when we were around four so there was no going back and I know she's glad she did it. We're all glad we did. We saw monkeys, went through the rainforest and cloud and got to the top of the volcano and the lagoon. It was super cloudy though so the view wasn't great but it was still a nice hike. Well it was a nice hike until going down, that was brutal. It was muddy going up but that isn't as hard as having it be muddy going down. It had been raining too so it got even worse going down.. It took us longer to go down which is kind of tough because at that point you just want to be done but we did it. Slowly but surely. Pam fell three times and Jackie once, the rest of us made it without wiping out but there were some close calls. I think the scariest thing about falling was the fact that there were rocks EVERYWHERE so you had to be careful because the last thing you'd want is to hit one of those... Once we had reached the bottom we saw a cobra snake which our guide actually picked up which seemed a little unnecessary but he thought it was cool.. I wonder if he would've been thinking the same if he would've gotten bitten by the poisonous snake. After the hike though we had some fresh fish finally from oddly enough this little hut across the street that we buy our fruit from. Linda, the owner went over and asked them to cook so they prepared three fish, rice and veggies all for us which was really good. You'd never think looking at the place you can eat there but surely enough you can. I think a valuable lesson we learned today too was if it takes 45 minutes to make a fish and you give 7:30 as the time you want to eat you can't change your mind and want it earlier... They don't have that ability and 45 minutes means just that, it's one person cooking and that's how it works. I get it though when you're used to having what you want quickly it's hard to adjust, especially when you're tired and hungry but that's what coming here is all about. Learning to adjust and take in this other way of living.
