Monday was an awful long drive, 960 kms which took about 11 hours. But we were amused by the signs which were on the side of the road saying :
"no your still far away kids"
"mum are we nearly there yet" and
"dad are we nearly there yet"
Also dancing in the car to our favorite songs that come on the radio and embarrassing the other person ha.
Getting slightly fed up with constant cheese sandwiches for lunch everyday and pork mince looking forward to when we go back home where I'll get the oven back. At about 8 at night we arrived at our campsite (camp kanga) when we finally had electric so we put all out dead laptops, cameras and phones on charge then headed to check out the showers and toilets as we haven't had a shower for 3 or 4 days only been swimming in the sea because the camp ground only had holes in the ground. So seeing the normal non smelly ones was great.
Tuesday we decided we'd just whiz up to cairns so we could book our snorkeling. The drive took another 7 hours but it was alright because it is getting warmer as we go up we had to start putting sun cream on when we were at rainbow beach. Chris's dancing certainly isn't getting much better hopefully in a few weeks of driving he will improve ha. So after 7 hours of driving we got into cairns where we went food shopping then we headed off for the camp grounds which as we found out when we arrived were full but we then head up the coast to Ellis beach where luckily they had space but for a price. 30 dollars for an unpowered site when the night before it was only 20 for a powered.
But when we woke up on Wednesday morning we realized why. The campsite was right on the beach and we were in palm trees and it was all very pretty when the sun rised. When we decided to get up and hit cairns so we headed to tourist information where we booked to go snorkeling at the barrier reef from port douglas. So we had a wander round cairns then headed up to port douglas and hour away. Then we settled in at a backpackers and had a few beers before going for a swim in the pool as it was pretty hot. Then went wandering round the town and docks.
Thursday we got up bright and early and headed to docks where we got on the astristrocat. We had morning tea then headed for the reef. We had a snorkeling talk by chad before we jumped in the water started 8 meters deep when you first went in. We all got ready then I got my pool noodle and headed for the reef. I eventually went in and panicked instantly because of the deep water around the reef and the fact we were in the middle of the ocean and that I could breath underwater didn't feel right. But I got used to it and saw nemo and his babies (it turns out the da can have a sex change and mate with the son if the mother dies and they never leave the enemy so there pretty inbred things ha) , a shark, clams, mushrooms and loads of fish and coral. After we visited the three reefs we headed back unfortunately I was ill on the way back cause I don't get along with boats. When we got back to the camper while having tea we watched our photo on the laptop. Surprisingly chris turns out to be a pretty good underwater photographer.
Today we headed to the airport where we flew to alice springs and then collected our new camper. Where chris started chatting to a nz dairy farmer (i dont how he finds them they must all smell the same or something) and got offered a job working for him which he didn't take because of his job in nz. Our camper got upgraded and now we have a britz, which your not ment to have till your 21 and has a proper kitched and chris has his tea pot and there is a mirror and we have a duvet so we are very happy indeed. Tomorrow we head for ayers rock.
