Just us again!!
So We both started work the following day after posting the previous blog, It was 2 train stations away from the City, which took 9 minutes, in a small area of Sydney called Erskineville. The area is a standard suburb, with the usual, cricket oval, train station, school and a parade of shops. So not much to do on breaks. Anyway the job was working for Toll Priority, for the 'Techserv' area of the business. www.tollpriority.com.au.
What the actual job was, ringing merchants (retailers / shop keepers to you and I) to tell them that St George Bank are upgrading their EFPOS machines, (the credit card machines) so arranging a date when a technician can come and upgrade the terminal. We worked from an excel spreadsheet, and rang number after number arranging these upgrades. Luke & I did a good job of working together, and made a really good team... But then a week into the job I had a phone call from a job agency, offering me a credit control job in their offices. So i jumped at the chance, and went along for my interview.. The next day I was offered the job, and that day I had to resign with immediate effect from Toll... I got a little bit of grief from the agency who recruited me the job at Toll, but I survived her obnoxiousness knowing I was starting at a nice place on Monday!!
So now I work for Ambition Recruitment,/www.ambition.com.au, in their accounts department, dealing with their invoices, and it is only day 2 into the job, and I love it, its so relaxed, the people are lovely, the offices are really cool, My desk faces the window with views of the darling harbour on one side, and the giant buildings on the other, and were always getting quizes and I hear that every friday, we finish work at 3.30 and crack open the wine & beer!!! So ive been hired on a 6 month contract here, so we will be staying in Sydney until March now, before starting to make our way home..Slowly!
Another blessing in disguise is that both Luke & I have bought some bicycles!! The intention was to ride to work daily, and save on the train fair over the next 6 months.. But the day we picked up the bikes, we mapped out our route to Erskineville where we worked, which is only about 3km, and then set off on the journey, it only took 25-30 minutes, so is much quicker than the walk to the train statio, the waiting time, the train journey, and the walk then to work.... Once we made it to work, we turned around and came straight back home.. That evening, needless to say, we were both knackered!!! But to make sure Luke knew the route we attempted to do the route again the following day, but I was in agony! I couldnt sit on the seat of the bike and my legs were tired, so I gave up ad walked!!! But Luke rode still, and found his way there and back without my navigation!!
I will save the riding until the odd weekend, I think this weekend we might go for a ride over the Sydney Harbour bridge, just for something to do... But once a week is enough for me!! Poor Luke is still commuting every day, and his body seems to have adapted to the painful torturous bike!!
So it really is hitting Summer now, the weather is now usually sunny, Maybe a little cloudy, but always above 26 degrees. Im finding it really hard to comprehend the backwards weather, Its October this week - and its HOT HOT HOT!! Obviously thats Australia for you, but its really a surreal feeling!!
Hope everyone is keeping warm with the central heating!! And keeping well.
Both Luke & I have settled in nicely, and love our house were living in, and love the sun, and the area, and the jobs......so It has all been worth while!!
** I think its daylight savings this coming Sunday, so we move further away from you!! We have been 9 hours ahead of you for the last month, but now we leap forward to 10 hours ahead of you ( i think) - we'll need to check this before work on Monday!!!.. Just so you know!**
Lots of love to you all.... J&L xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
