Howdy!!
Sooo, weve been here for a couple of weeks now, and I must say, have settled in nicely!! We stayed in Tamarama (next to Bondi) for the first couple of days, at a place advertised as "Bondi Beach house!".. Anyway, this area was a little run down, I think the reason we didnt like it was because we walked daily to and from Bondi Junction, which was a horrid treck!!
We moved out of there and into a hostel in the city, Because the place we wanted to rent wasnt ready for another week, so we put down our deposit and checked into the Base backpackers hostel, a comfortable enough hostel, and we met a few people there, so wasnt a wasted week! Also did some sightseeing, and headed up to the Harbour bridge and Opera house, and the most important sight of all... "Fort Denison!"!!!
Then onto the monotomous job of registering with job agencies!! Well this was an eye opener!! Firstly, the first agency we signed up for said they would send our resumes out to other companies... they failed to mention that they ment other agencies, so within the week we must have signed up to EVERY agency and company in the whole city!! There was one agency which was on the 47th floor, and had the most spectacular views of the city!! So thats saved us $160, we dont now have to pay to go to the sky deck for the exact same views!! SCORE!!!!
We have now secured a contract with a company, we start work tomorrow, and more of the job description will follow in the next blog, but from what I know right now, is that we assign engineers to go and fix ATM machines for banks. Its better wage than what we were on in Perth, and is only Monday to Friday, so we can bake away nicely on weekends.
The weather has really started to warm up here, which is lovely, all the locals are telling me "ahhh you wont be so happy in a month or so when its constantly 40 degrees!" But i will be the judge of that!!
This weekend, we saw the arrival of Gemma, My New Zealand friend I met 6 years ago in America, we worked at Camp together and travelled the US afterwards, well she came over to visit with her friend Aideen, so we went out for dinner and drinks on Saturday night at Darling Harbour, to a cool named Thai restaurant "Thai Foon!" Then came back to our house for goooooon!! Our housemates were having a BBQ so we chatted to them when Gim & Aideen had left us.
Sunday - Luke had a Gym day, and I met up with Gem and Aideen, we caught the bus to Coogee, and we walked the whole 6 Kilometres to Bondi. Coogee looks an awesome place, and when we got off the bus we were greeted to a HUGE beer garden...note to self, We will spend alot of time & money here in the summer!! Then we hit the road, and walked the coastal walk.... our first "off the beaten track" adventure, we turned off the main route, to go right to the edge of the cliff, and a blooming big lizzard crossed our path!! It had such a wide body, and tiny legs, i couldnt see them at first and thought it was a snake!! Eeeeekkkk!!
The route was brill, some really gorgeous views out to the ocean and along the coast line, but it was VERY busy, and loads of dog walkers! I miss Millie!
Then after an hour, Bondi was in sight!!... we walked through the world famous Iceberg Bondi, its really surreal how all these iconic places that I have only dreamed about visiting are all here and I am ticking these places off my list!! Sydney Opera house, Tick.... Sydney Harbour bridge, Tick.... Bondi Beach, Tick... and so on!!
So we rewarded ourselves after the treck with some lunch, Bondi is full of lots of small little street cafes and bars, so we found a nice mediterranean cafe and sat down in the sun, the next couple of hours were spent shopping, (Window shopping for me) Booo!! Then we spent th rest of the afternoon at Bondi Markets, Now i really wish I was rich! The market was for local traders, mostly artists and fashion designers, but there wre vintage stalls, leather stalls, jewellery stall. But the prices were market up quite a litte bit too much for my liking.. but when I have saved up some spending money, I am coming back, and buying some delicious treats for myself that noone else will have!!
Another tiring trip shopping we settled down in Bunga-bar for a couple of beers, before I left Gemma and Aideen for their "all nighter" and I came back to the city to Lukey!
Having Darling harbour on our doorstep is really convenient, we can go for a lovely walk on an evening and listen to the music and see the lights of the city, or head over there int he afternoon for a coffee or some food... or just sit by the water and watch the day go by!
And today is our last day of freedom before working, so we spent the morning in the Powerhouse museum, and enjoyed it!!! They have an exhibit on at the moment which is "back to the 80's" which was so cool, there were Kylie & Jason in Neighbours - it showed the clip when Jason proposed etc, a huge rubiks cube, my little ponies, and a huge mobile phone!! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and luke says he did too, which is a bonus!! Also was a fashion section, and it made me really sad for not doing it anymore... maybe do something along the manufacturing lines when i get home??
But for now, I will make do being your travel journalist!!
So my tan is coming on nicely (and quickly) and we may be changing our plans slightly to stay here for 6 months, rather than 4, but not too sure as of yet!?!
I will update again soon, it seems its all gone quiet from the UK just now... I want to know what you guys have been up to.. do tell....
But untill then, Sayonara!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
