Well, I've finally made it to Sydney after a month of travelling down the Coast. Since my last blog I have been to Brisbane, which is ok but not a huge amount to see, and then to Byron Bay which is very chilled out.
I've done the Byron Bay to Sydney route before so I wanted to do something a bit different (its about a 12 hour drive) for the journey. I decided to do a surf safari which is basically where you travel down the coast stopping at a couple of places for a couple of days and having surf lessons along the way. It was an organised tour so 24 of us got on the coach on Monday and got drive to a place called "spot X' which is about 3 hours south of Byron bay. There we stayed on a Caravan Park and had 2 lessons a day for 3 days. We basically got up for an 8am breakfast, had a 2 hour surf lesson at 9.30am, lunch at 12pm then a couple of hours break before another 2 hour lesson at 3.30pm and then dinner at 6. In the evening we sat around the campfire drinking and listening to a guy play the guitar.
On Thursday we drove another couple of hours down the Coast to Crescent head which is a really secluded spot on the Coast and where we had another 2 surf lessons including one at 6am on Friday morning!! It was hard work (especially as I didn't go to bed until 1.30am the night before), but it was very worthwhile as we got to see some Dolphins which were jumping the waves behind us as we surfed in. It was very cool!!
My surfing has definetly improved, but I'm knackered now and glad to be in Sydney with Lindsay. We went for a surf this morning and I was rubbish as my arms aren't really working too well at the moment. I also have some rather attractice chafeage and blisters across my tummy, side, thighs and knees - Oh the sacrifices I make for surfing!! Look out Boscombe surf reef, here I come (when it gets finished!!).
I'm staying with Lindsay in Manly for a couple of weeks before my parents arrive on the 19th and we have Christmas in Coogee Beach. The whole Christmas thing is really freaking me out as I've only ever had Christmas in cold countries!! By head just can't compute that Christmas is almost here and so I have yet to start my pressie shopping!! I have a couple of weeks and I'm in Sydney, so I think I will be able to find something!!!!! Its also really wierd seeing Christmas trees and hearing caroles!
Hope everyone is looking forward to the Christmas holidays! Keep in touch!! xx
