Hey everyone!
Although this blog is from Vegas I'm actually now in San Fransisco, but I had to get another spot on my blog map!
Flew into Las Vegas on Saturday morning after a 4.45am alarm call to get us to the airport in time. We stayed at the Flamingo which is on the strip just opposite Ceasars Palace and the Bellagio. Our room was so Vegas!! We had 2 big, very comfy double beds, both of which have white PVC headboards!! The room also had a huge flat screen TV in the room, plus another TV set into the mirror in the bathroom, and the lights in the bathroom are pink. Having spent the majority of the last 6 months in hostels I wasn't sure what to do with myself in this room - needless to say I unpacked my bag and spread all my stuff everywhere!! Not something you can do in a dorm and luckily Siobhan didn't mind (too much!)!
Vegas is completely as OTT as it sounds, but its also a lot of fun. We didn't gamble - apart from $1 on a one arm bandit. I won $2.40 but put it all back in and lost it again. We are the last of the big spenders!!! The casino's in all of the hotels are huge and constantly busy. You are also allowed to smoke in them which is a strange concept now, especially as everywhere else in the US you can only smoke outside.
We checked out all of the big hotels, including the Venitian, Ceasars Palace, the Wynn, Paris Las vegas and New York, New York. The attention to detail is unreal! In the Venetian you could have been walking along a street in Venice and there is a scale version of the Eiffel Tower outside Paris. And there are so many shops, and so many versions of the same shop. I must have seen about 4 Gap's in the space of a square mile!!
My favourite thing though was the Bellagio Fountains. I felt like I was in the middle of Oceans 11 - if only Brad Pitt had been there!! The fountains are amazing and each display is set to music and the water goes so high. Its really awe-inspiring!
We also had a bit of a night out last night and I am suffering a bit. I haven't had a night out like that since Christmas probably - do you feel sorry for me?! We went to an Irish bar in New York New York and they had some Live Irish music so we got in the spirit of things with a few Magners, and then a few more! We met an American Girl and a couple of British guys and had a good laugh and a bit of a jig. Me and Siobhan eventually weaved our way home at about 3am. I feel rather fragile today!!
So now I'm in San Francisco, which is the last stop on my RTW adventure. Less than a week to go until I head back to the UK, and normality. I'm really looking forward to it, but can't lie and say I'm not just a tiny bit anxious!
See you all very soon! xxxxx
