Hey everyone!
I'm finally back on the mainland of Fiji after 9 nts on the Yasawa Islands. It has been very relaxing but I'm now ready to get back to some kind of civilisation!! Over the past week I've visited 4 islands in the Yasawas which is a group of islands to the North West of mainland Fiji. The majority of resorts are tailored to backpackers so its nice and cheap but it also has its issues, which I will go onto later!!
In my last blog I mentioned Manta Ray which truly was fantastic. nothing flash, but really comfortable and the food was loveley. I also completed my Adventure Diver certification which required me to do a Boat dive (basically diving from a boat which I've done for most of my dives so far), a Naturalist Dive - not to be confused with a Naturist Dive, which is something different altogether (I had to chat to the Dive Instructor about what I'd seen under water in the way of fish and coral), a deep dive (where I went down to 32 m) and a night dive (pretty self explanatory!!). I was really pleased with the 32m dive as I've had a few issues with my ears and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get down that far. I did, however, get a noise bleed when I was ascending on every dive so I think I will go and get my sinuses checked out when I get home. The Night dive was really good as well as we saw loads of cool stuff - lion fish, red star fish, shrimps, lobsters etc.
The other resorts were good, but I was in a large dorm which because I'm a relatively light sleeper means that I get a disturbed nights sleep and the choice of food was very limited. At least I feel like I've lost some weight after stuffing my face in New Zealand!!
The other issue with the resorts was the bugs!! I have coated myself on a daily basis with bug spray and I was doing really well until a couple of days ago when about 30 bites appeared all over me. Only a few of them itch which is a good thing, but they don't look very nice and I'm not entirely sure what they are from. Throughout my Fiji trip there have been plenty of stories about bed bugs so I may have been attacked by them in the night!! You are also never sure what crawls over you while you are sleeping so I always tried to pull the sheet right round me to avoid any late night insect wanderings, but its so hot that its difficult to sleep under anything!!
I also feel that I've got progressively thicker over the last few days as I've had very little to stimulate me mentally!! Its tough when someone is making all the decisions for you, and all you have to do is lie around all day!! I even struggled doing Suduko!!
All in all Fiji hs been a lot of fun and very chilled. Apart from the diving I've managed to sunbathe, snorkel, sunbathe, sunbathe, sunbathe, and when that got too much I laid in a hammock for a bit before I sunbathed again!!
So my Fiji adventure is almost over and later today I fly to Hawaii to begin another adventure. It wont be long before I'm back at home bothering you all with my photos and boring you with mys stories!! So make the most of the peace while you have it!!
In the mean time there are more photos which I've added at:
