SUNSHINE AT LAST
Day 66: Koh Tao
I had a pretty restless night's sleep last night, probably due to the huge amount of sleep during the day, the loud music we could hear from the town below and the constant dropping of rather large things on to our roof from the trees above. Seriously, they sound like coconuts being thrown down, loud enough to wake me up every time.
When we got up, we had a lovely four course breakfast (God, I love buffet breakfasts) overlooking the water before heading straight down to the beach as the sun was shining!
Jansom bay is a perfect little cove with enough space for about 15 sunbeds. We picked a spot and soaked up the rays. I decided to take advantage of the free snorkels and explore the reef just off the beach. There's an array of inquisitive fish around the cove, from black and white stripey fish (actual scientific name, I'm sure) to parrot fish and even squid - I bumped into a school of about a hundred when I went in the second time, but didn't want to get too close in case they inked me.
We sunbathed the hours away, enjoying fresh coconut juice (served in the coconut of course) and watching the longtail boats cross the bay.
Back at the room we tucked in to the fresh fruit we were given last night and headed to the small town of Mae Haad with the aim of exchanging Jen's Harry Potter book for another one.
It was getting really hot now so we had a quick look around the town and popped in one of the few bookshops to exchange the book; Shantaram (and 175 baht) for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
We decided that a large late lunch would be suffice for today's meal intake, so we stopped at neighbouring Sensi Resort on the way back for some food by the water. Over lunch we decided that we should spend our entire six days not only on Koh Tao, but at our resort. It's above our price range, but it might be a long time before we can afford a holiday like this again, so we're going to make the most of it.
After I confirmed our intentions with reception, and got a free night AND a free dinner (score!), we were treated to a lovely sunset which we watched from the lower terrace on the rocks - what a perfect day.
