The 12 hour coach journey here was spent with Tom and Kennedy who we made get in touch with their feminie side. This was achieved with Golden Gaytimes (we are speading the love of the ICECREAMS), girly mags and 'Guess The Intro' on ipods where Kennedy did surprisingly well on the Mariah, Whitney and Britney numbers!
That night we headed out to wave off Bart and Ivar. It was a lame night on our behalf, still not being able to handle alcohol from Den's bday but good to see them again, just sad to see them go. Hope you guys made it home to Holland safe and sound, we miss you!
Being the organised travellers we are we decided to sort our Chinese visas, so off we went to find the Chinese consulate only to discover there wasn't one. After calling them and being told we couldn't get it on arrival, they couldn't do it over the phone or net and the only option was to go to Brisbane or Sydney, panic set in and for some reason shopping seemed the best therapy. But it was fate as in the Mall (via Boost Juice and Gloria Jeans) we discovered a travel agent who said we could do it through them. $150 later we were still not guaranteed they'd arrive on time we just had to cross our fingers and hope for best. But all is good and they arrived Friday so we are off!
Rest of Cairns days were spend shopping, eating and sleeping due to a distinc lack of cash apart from the odd night out here and there, obviously! Said goodbye to Tom and Kennedy but bumped into Martin who nicely informed us that he had met a couple who had told him about a lesbian couple that had stayed in their room. Martin showed them a picture of us, to which they replied, "yes thats them, thats the girls who like to share beds even when there are free ones!" To our defense, we didn't realise a bed was free, we were gutted in the morn as sharing a pillow and one sheet isn't a nice experience!
Our best day in Cairns has to be yesterday when we went diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We saw the most amazing Coral and so many fish it took our breaths away. Not being able to speak we only managed 'too much rock for one hand' signals! We found Nemos and all his cousins as well as a scaled down Bruce (white tipped reef shark) and a Steve Killer Stingray. Just when we thought the day couldn't get any better (free lunch and tea), we got a deal to go on the helipcopter. Ok ok, we are poor but this couldn't be missed and yes we did have to go on in our bikinis to make the pilot happy and get the discount, but needs must and it was amazing/awesome/pukka/wicked/wow! Saw turtles, sharks and just got to see how beautiful and big it really is (bigger than Ireland and the UK together)! Fantastic day to end Oz. Oh and tonight we are going for a meal, just a little treat to make most of western food!
So, three months and we are done, onto Asia. What to say about the great down-under....Rock On! Great times, great places, great people! Its not the destination, its the journey (unless your in a Wicked campervan!)
